Are you making crafts for Valentine’s Day?

Not every Christmas project you cross-stitch or needlepoint needs to be a big one – in fact, it can be a lot of fun to work on little projects that you can finish in one or two evenings.

I’ve found some fun, free patterns for Christmas cross-stitch and needlepoint. These projects would make great gifts, labels for special presents or even hung on your tree. You could use plastic canvas or cross-stitch paper to make stiff ornaments, or use Aida cloth to make Christmas cards.

hoop frames for hanging embroidery

The talented crew at Sublime Stitching have just added another product to their catalog:

Clean, unfussy hoop frames.

They’re perfect for displaying embroidery without extra loops or hangers showing at the top. I think they’d even work for displaying pieces of your favorite fabrics as well.

I found some lovely designs out there, both for hand & machine embroidery:

Sarah Bradberry designed this one.
“Embroidery Designs” has a beautiful multi-colored butterfly for embroidery machines.
4-Hobby offers a simple, graphic butterfly for embroidery machines.
And for those of you who cross-stitch, Kreinik has a small & simple (but elegant) pattern.

I realized that it’s been awhile since I’ve posted anything for my hand-stitching friends Did you know that DMC Thread offers some fantastic free patterns?

I’ve got a soft spot for butterfly patterns – and this one is made using cotton floss.

This design is stitched using their spectacular “light effects” floss.

This site is so cool. It’s called Sew Exciting and when you click on this link you will go to a glossary of stitches.

These are just 3 examples of 150 stitches you can see. They are grouped in a drop down menu by stitch style. Here is the really cool part. If you create a free account (I did – very easy), you can click on the picture and see detailed instruction on how to do the stitch.

I’ll be back at this site a lot. They also have cool needlework kits to buy but I love this stitch guide.
