I’m going to share something very personal here… When I was growing up, my mom lived with an abusive partner. It was a terrifying time in my life. Eventually, she left him or he left her – it was pretty back and forth for a whole lot of years. I love my mom, but part of me will always resent what we all went through at that time. It is impossible to live with violence and not have it affect you in some way.
I’ve been following the Rihanna/Chris Brown “alleged” physical violence situation. What she’s doing, going back to …read more

As soon as I posted this link about the type of messages you’d like to send out to Rihanna today, I caught this CNN article that says she and Chris Brown will record a duet.
Mind boggling! To say the least.
And this is just days after “charges were filed against him for allegedly assaulting her.” I am dying to know what the theme of this duet consists of, aren’t you?
This is either a classic case of battered woman’s syndrome, or (as some on the Web have speculated) it’s all for publicity. I vote for the former of those …read more

Suffering abuse is bad enough. But it also changes the way women behave in relationships from that point forward. If women stay in a bad relationship, they are “likely to stop trusting …read more
Stop Blaming the Victim
As more details/speculation/rumors come out about the Rihanna/Chris Brown altercation, many people have an opinion. Several commentors are sharing their thoughts over on MTV’s site and it breaks my heart to hear what they are saying.
While most of the comments are from people who are shocked and appalled at Chris Brown’s behavior, there some comments blaming Rihanna. Comments like “I don’t think Chris would just a hit a girl like that. She had to do something or say something out the way for him to really hurt her. And “… Chris’ career may be ruined forever … sooo sad. I …read more
Educating Teens About Dating Violence
Today’s gossip magazines are filled with news of R&B singers Chris Brown and Rihanna. Over the weekend 19-year-old Chris Brown allegedly assaulted his 20-year-old girlfriend, Rihanna. Apparently they got in to an argument in their car that ended up with them physically fighting in the street. By the time police arrived on the scene Rihanna had “horrific” contusions, a split lip, and a bloody nose.
Unfortunately dating violence isn’t as rare as we might think (or at least hope). But there isn’t a lot of education on the matter. Our teens have sex education class that teaches them about their bodies …read more
