Obama’s grandmother, broke her hip – dies, one day before historic election

Whether you are an Obama supporter or not, I think that this news has to be a bit sad for many. Barack Obama has been making  history and could be the first African-American president of the United States, but his grandmother, Madelyn Dunham, who broke her hip not too long ago, died of cancer today – one day before that historic election.
It’s known that a broken hip in seniors can speed up a disease process, like that of cancer. The pain and disability can cause the most independent of seniors to become weak and frail.
I can only hope that she …read more

Curcumin may offer relief from pain of cold sores

It isn’t anywhere near a treatment yet, but researcher may have put their finger on something that may help people who suffer from painful cold sores.

Tuesday travels around the channel

Hop aboard and read about what’s happening around the Health & Wellness channel here at b5media. Sometimes, we couldn’t be more different, but then there are times when a few of us find we’ve blogged about the same things. As I say in other posts like this – just because I don’t include all the blogs, that doesn’t mean they’re not interesting. Go check them out too!
Mark, over at A Dozen Steps, has a thought-provoking and sad story: A Child Is Not A Weapon! It’s so sad when the children get mixed up because of adult problems. Speaking of alcohol …read more

10 reasons you should read Help My Hurt

So, after thinking about it, here are the 10 reasons I think that people should read Help My Hurt. Please add your ideas if you have any.
1- If you don’t live with chronic pain, a blog like Help My Hurt may help you understand what it is like to live with pain and …read more

I did it! I found a Wii Fit!

I don’t have it in my possession yet; I just bought it on ebay, for a very decent price, and am waiting for delivery.
For those of  you who don’t know, I really wanted a Wii Fit. I bought the game system in January and enjoy playing the tennis game that came with it. I have long wanted to try yoga and don’t have the persistence to use a book or DVD, nor do I like to go to classes. I am, however, convinced that I will do it with the Wii Fit. As well, I’m looking forward to trying the …read more

Veterans with concussions left on their own

Military personnel like a soldier who was flung in the air when a grenade went off near him, can sustain head injuries even if they don’t lose consciousness. Unfortunately, many of these injuries go unnoticed and unreported.

Olympic athlete injury update – Aug. 10

French Open tennis champion and top ranked Olympic seed Ana Ivanovic has pulled out of the Beijing Olympics because of a thumb injury she sustained after Wimbledon.
Canadian tennis player Frederic Niemeyer withdrew from his singles competition, complaining of a sore right elbow. Hopefully he will be well enough to participate in the doubles competition.
While it’s not an injury, it’s likely just as devastating. Canadian swimmer Victoria Poon has come down with the chicken pox. She missed the team relay yesterday and her status for her individual event on Friday is unknown right now.
