Classic Offbeat Homes: Knitted House

Honestly, I don’t think this offbeat house got quite the love it deserved the first time around; which is why I’ve decided that it should be our classic post of the week.

Not only is this house totally unique, but it’s a sewing leap. Seriously, could you knit a house? When I was 8 I tried to knit a scarf, and didn’t get very far, so I’m impressed.
Plus knit flowers! Imagine the benefits; less care, water savings, and they’re always in bloom – too cool. Read Knit Yourself A Home to learn more, and to see other great images of this …read more

Classic Offbeat Homes: Home Minded Books & DVDs

Earlier today I posted a review of a new book; The Carbon-Free Home: 36 Remodeling Projects to Help Kick the Fossil -Fuel Habit.
With that in mind, I figured the timing was right to share some previous building/home resource books and DVDs that we’ve seen here at Offbeat in the past.

Offbeat Worthy Holiday Gifts (there’s an amazing book and a cool DVD listed in this post, among other items).
My Favorite Building DVD – the contest is over (ignore that) but the review is worth reading.

Classic Offbeat Homes: Offbeat Homes for Pets

We don’t see many animal posts here. I’m not a big pet fan, and frankly, there are not too many animal homes. However, we have seen a smattering of pretty cool pet abodes and this is the focus of our classic Offbeat post this week.
My favorite pet home post here ever was: Sustainable Homes for Furry Friends, in which we saw the most amazing earth-friendly pet homes.

In Offbeat Pet Homes there were some pretty slick pet houses as well, such as this funky fish bowl:

Classic Offbeat Homes: Barn Conversions

A good barn conversion usually cheers my day up; so let’s make that our classic look of the day. Following is one of my favorite barn conversions ever, although it’s hard to limit favorites, because certain people have done some wonderful things with barns over the years.

To read about the barn conversion above, see more photos, and learn about more barn conversion projects read: Super Fly Barn Conversions. To really start drooling take a look at Quite Possibly the Best Barn House on the Planet.

Classic Offbeat Homes: Book Life

I’ve taken up reading recently, which would sound odd if you knew me. I’ve always collected books, read many books a week, and been overall book obsessive my entire life. However, for the last year I’ve been writing so much that I’m all worded out. I don’t much love to see words when I’m not working, so I quit reading for the most part – long books I mean. Still, I suppose old habits die hard, because I’m back in the reading flow lately. That said, it’s a good time to look back at some bookish Offbeat posts.

Classic Offbeat Homes – Computer Worthy Homes

So, I don’t know if I mentioned this earlier today (geez, short term memory), but my modem broke three days ago. What a hassle. I’m happy it’s behind me, I’m thrilled to be back online, and to celebrate that, let’s look at two tech based Offbeat classics.
Here’s a cool computer house. I really liked this house when I first saw it; still do. You have to really look, but it’s just so darn creative.

And for some more tech inspired structures see, How to Use Spam to Build an Offbeat House, which is one of my favorite posts ever here at …read more

Classic Offbeat Homes – Fun Stuff

I thought that for this week’s classic shot, we’d go WAY back. I’m talking the first month of this blog. There are a coupld of posts I really like from back then, such as…
How To Make a Sideways Room

The link in this post is old, but still works. Which means you get to see the whole darn sideways house. Seriously, these kids were cool. Or maybe had too much time? Either way, it’s fun to see a whole bunch of sideways rooms.
Next, my kind of fun, the Airstream kind. I’ve got a bad, bad crush on Airstream trailers, so this …read more
