She knew too well that that I loved to color, and she used to tell me that the one thing that can easily pacify me on a very humid summer day was to be handed out a coloring book and my trusty Crayola set. Mum cheerfully recalls that I was a happy kid.

Now that I am a mother myself, I am thankful that my daughter took on this lobve for coloring books. It was actually one of the primary activities she learned as a toddler. It kept her busy while I do my thing at home. When she got a little older, she has graduated to those teeny booper spin-offs of coloring “booklets”. And I noticed that this artistic inclination has helped her a great deal in recognizing proper color combinations and right palettes.

A wonderful site called Coloring Pages For Kids will provide all possible subjects that your child can ever hope to color. It easily prints out to a 8.5×11 size, and they even have a tutorial on how to bind these printables into your child’s own coloring book, among others.

I still love to color even at my age. It keeps me pre-occupied while waiting to board airplanes, or simply to while away the time. It is a therapeutic way to de-stress the mind.

Sherry had a great question yesterday in her post about keeping kids occupied. I commented that maybe printing out some coloring pages would help and thought I’d expand on that a little bit and list some of my girls’ favorite coloring sites.
We’ve been doing coloring pages for years and years now. Every once in a while we’ll pick up a coloring book at the store but they seem to have less interest in those (especially as they get older), but coloring pages don’t lose their charm because they get to pick specifically what they’re in the mood for.

They’ve also “graduated” from using crayons to markers and colored pencils and their preferences for pictures has changed from Dora and Disney to more intricate fairies and realistic-looking animals, so below are some of our favorite “older kid” coloring page sites!
