Cooking Tools: Mezzaluna

When you cook, do you have certain kitchen tools that you feel that  cannot cook without?  If you end up in another cook’s  kitchen, do you feel off-balance without your stuff?  Sort of like trying to write with the wrong hand?
I like to have my own tools. I like my cutting boards, my knives, and my wooden spoons. They feel comfortable and familiar in my hands. One of my favorite tools is a flat cheese grater that used to belong to my Great Grandma. It has a fine-size grating section that is perfect for Parmesan or citrus zest. I have a stand …read more

Top 13 cooking tools from Cooking Light

Don’t you just love top 10 lists?  I know I do, even when they’ve got slightly more or fewer than 10 items on them.  It seems that lately everyone is coming out with a top-whatever list of cooking tools and gadgets.   Cooking Light just came out with a great list, about three-quarters of which match my own list

What would you change?   Anything?  Even though I do love my strainer and my peeler, I can think of other ways to do those jobs.  And as for a food scale…yeah, I know I should probably use one, but I’m …read more

I Want A New Fondue Set

I found my fondue set for $3 at a Goodwill store last year. The whole family had an awesome time dipping different kinds of fruits onto the melted chocolate. It’s a nice basic fondue set but I want to upgrade.
This fondue set only has the ceramic bowl, stand, candle holder, fondue forks and the tealight candles. The wooden lazy susan and the bowls are not included. I just used them to complete the whole thing and make everything have it’s own place.
I would love to this Fondue Set for an upgrade:

Mario Batali Panini Grill and Press

I am not a sandwich person but I want a Panini grill. Am I crazy of what? I drool over the electric panini grills that I see in stores. I’m always hinting at my husband how I would like to own one. Of course I’ll use it to make sandwiches for the whole family once I have it.
Here’s an interesting panini grill and press from Mario Batali.
I called it “interesting” because it looks different from all the other panini grills that’s I’ve see. This looks more like a regular cast iron pan with grill marks and a heavy cover fore …read more

Flexible measuring cups

Why bother to get both a measuring cup and a funnel messy when one gadget will do both? It seems like I’ve been waiting all my baking like for this set of flexible measuring cups…they flex, so that once you’ve got the proper amount measured, you’ll also have complete control as you pour it out! They also have a textured surface so they won’t slip out of your hands. Great great idea

Individual Pie Slice Pans

Bake a pie and serve it individually from the same pan you used to bake the pie in. How innovative and clean is that?
Check out these Individual Pie Slice Pans. They’re stonewear and perfect for baking fruit pies, pot pies, cobblers, and I’m assuming custards as well.
No need to slice the pie and leaving some of the fillings and crust on the pan. Just serve the slice on it’s own. I’m thinking you could probably also bake different fruit pies, according to your guests or family’s favorite, all at the same time.
A set of 2 is currently …read more
