Have you noticed that there are less and less over the counter medicines available for children?  I heard something the other day that said that you shouldn&#8217;t give kids cold medicine anymore.  Not sure why..I don&#8217;t follow the news that much.
Anyway, there are some great natural cough syrups.  If you are an adult and will be taking it at home  you can add about an ounce of good brandy to this recipe. Not only will you not cough but you will get a good night&#8217;s sleep!

<p><span id="more-61746"></span>Anyway, there are some great<strong> natural cough syrups</strong>.  If you are an adult and will be taking it at home  you can add about an ounce of good brandy to this recipe. Not only will you not cough but you will get a good night&#8217;s sleep!</p>
<p>Remember that children under the age of 18 months should not have honey.  If you are making this for a small child use organic corn syrup instead and add 1 tablespoon of organic raw cider vinegar.</p>
<p><span style="color: #339999"></span><strong>Homemade Cough Medicine</strong></p>
<p>1 large  onion, peeled and chopped</p>
<p>2 cloves garlic peeled and chopped</p>
<p>Buckwheat honey to cover onion</p>
<p>1 half  pint  jar with a lid.</p>
<p>Add honey, garlic, and onion to a large pan and simmer over low heat, stirring often until the onion is cooked and very soft.  Strain honey into the jar and cover tightly.  Cool.  Add brandy if desired.</p>
<p>Let sit overnight.<br />
Keep refrigerated. Take 1 tablespoon (under 6) to 2 tablespoons (over 6)  as needed for cough.</p>
