Homemade Dog Crackers

I’ve written before about how I like to make my own treats for our dogs. I like knowing exactly what’s going into the treats and of course, knowing how fresh they are. It’s also pretty economical, with each batch costing just a fraction of what store bought treats can run.

1 cup rolled oats
1/3 cup unsalted butter melted
1 cup boiling water
2 teaspoons chicken or beef bullion
¾ cornmeal
1 tablespoon honey
½ cup milk
1 cup Parmesan cheese
1 egg beaten
1 stalk celery (chopped fine)

Smoked Salmon Spread
Cousin of mine makes a good smoked salmon spread. Great for special occasions and entertaining guests.
SMOKED SALMON SPREAD
14 oz. can wild Alaskan smoked salmon (optional smoked)
6 tablespoons mayonnaise
1 tablespoon minced onion
1 teaspoon dried dill weed
2 teaspoons lemon juice
1 teaspoon horseradish
1/4 cup celery
1/4 cup red bell pepper
salt & pepper
Mix mayonnaise, onion, dill, lemon juice and horseradish. Fold in salmon, celery and red bell pepper. Add more/less mayonnaise upon preference. Salt and pepper to taste.
Chill 3 hours before serving.
Serve with butter crackers.
