BUST Magazine is holding a “Craftacular” event – this time in London, England!

The Craftacular events are normally held around Christmas, with the past three happening in London, New York or Los Angeles.  BUST has decided to share the fun year-round so the “2009 Summer Craftacular” was born.

What’s a Craftacular, you ask?

They’re a combination of juried craft show, dance party, book signing and craft lesson.  You can shop the booths of some of London’s most talented indie crafters, chill out and listen to the DJs or even enjoy something tasty to drink while you learn a new craft.

The London event takes place on Saturday, August 22nd, from noon until 8pm at the York Hall, in Bethnal Green, London.  The first hundred people to attend will get a free goodie bag!  Admission is £2.

BUST London Summer Craftacular

You are in for a treat!

The Urban Craft Uprising indie craft show happens this weekend, August 1st & 2nd 2nd at the Seattle Center Exhibition Hall.

As well as more than 100 talented vendors there are going to be fiber art workshops (as well as workshops on almost anything interesting and crafty that you can think of!)  Several authors will be in attendance, which means that you can pick up their latest book and get a signed copy.

You can check out their blog too – they’ve got vendor interviews and all kind of cool goodies online.

I’ve used postcards to publicize my books and take orders.  I recently read about an author who has expanded the use of her postcards.  It got me thinking about ways to utilize this form of PR for other art and craft work.

Print a picture of your craft, book, painting or other art on the card.  Then develop the back for:

• Grand openings
• Sales announcements
• Order blank for taking orders 
• Information about you
• Classes/workshops
• Event announcements
• General news

Carry the cards with you.  Mail them out.  Have them on a display table at an event.

Using Postcards for Craft PR

Preparation generally is the key to having success at a show…in terms of people coming to your booth and items sold.  (Yes, there are some variables you can’t control such as weather, conflict with a school program, office parties, etc.)  However, you can become knowledgeable about the strategies you can control for quilt and craft shows.

I came across a very informative item at A Patchwork World, The Do’s and Don’ts of Craft Shows. 

Even if you finished with quilt and craft shows until 2008, you may find these tips helpful in your future planning.  You may have that “Ah! Ha!” moment, when you wonder why you didn’t think of something so simple as one or more of the tips.
