Call for Entries – Creativity Portal

Creativity Portal are creating a new daily prompt called 365 Pictures and they’re calling for your entries. Details on how to enter & what to submit are on their website. I sure hope you take advantage of this call to enter some of your photos. It’s a great way to get a little extra exposure for your own work, too, as you will be able to have a link to your website or blog. Even if you don’t enter, there will be yet another cool place to find prompts for your journal writing.

The Definition of Good & Evil

I found another journal writing prompt on Creativity Portal today about defining goodness. This is an excellent prompt, because each of us would define goodness in a slightly different way. Although there may be similarities about what goodness is, I would suggest defining evilness as well, to balance the exercise.
Once you’ve spent time writing what you feel each of these words mean also write in your journal how these words are used by yourself, by the popular culture, the media, etc. Which of these words do you feel more comfortable ascribing to yourself and why? Are you actually a …read more

Most Important Things for Your Relationship

Thanks to the great prompt generator over at Creativity Portal here’s another journal writing prompt to get you writing. Write a list of the 10 most important things in your relationship. Really think about this. Try to hone in on what is important to you, not just to your relationship. If ten is too many try for eight. I found the first five fairly easy, but had to dig for the last five.
I also challenge you to do this twice; once while you’re feeling pretty good and the second time when you’ve just had an argument with someone. I’m …read more

Thanks to the prompt generator at Creativity Portal here’s another great journal writing prompt.
Think about what a soul is. Do you believe you have a soul? Do animals? Is it possible to sell your soul? Have you ever met anyone you felt didn’t have a soul? Can a soul be beautiful, ugly? Define soul and then spend time in your journal writing what this means to you.
I hope you enjoy this journal writing prompt. Please share any comments in the section below.

The Creative Process

After yesterday’s entry on what creative means to you, I wasn’t surprised to find my radar on alert over the topic. This afternoon I read an article on Creativity Portal by Jan Haller on A Blank Piece of Paper. While Jan is speaking about painting in her excellent article, please have a read, as she has identified one of the reasons I keep a journal. There’s that whole discovery element. You can only begin each time you open to a new journal page. The writing and creating is part of the journey. I don’t think we ever really …read more

Creative?

The title of this blog, A Creative Journal, is what I really hope will become of your journal/s as well as my own. But what does creative mean to you? Before you rush to the dictionary, spend some time defining the words creative, creativity and creation. Find out what you feel these words mean. Once you’ve done that, list the ways you are creative. Try to go beyond the obvious. List things like cooking and encouraging people, as these can be outlets for creativity, too. I hope you enjoy using this journal writing prompt today. …read more

Creative Blocks

Today I received my newsletter from Creativity Portal. It’s definitely worth a read. There’s always something to get my creativity stirred or simply an interesting contributor with a website I didn’t know about before. This article caught my eye today. If you’re feeling creatively blocked in any way give it a read and perhaps spend some time writing in your journal about your response to what Chris Zydel, MA has to say.
