Here are my top recommendations for a fall shoulder season vacation. These are listed in no particular order, and you could have an amazing time in any of these locations.
San Francisco – Always an expensive city, but fall starts rolling in a few more cloudy and rainy days, making it a bit cool when the sun goes down. The days are still lovely, and the evening’s cold, crisp air, is not unbearable. The city looks different this time of year, and it’s in a good way.

Closed-Loop Cruises Do Not Require Passports

While I think a passport is one of those required life documents, and one that you should have long before you need it, there is an exemption for cruise passengers that many people may not be aware of. It’s called the “Closed Loop” exemption, and is a refinement of an existing definition regarding cruises that depart and return from the same U.S. port.
Here’s how it works:
If your cruise itinerary originates and terminates in the Unites States, and only visits contiguous territories or adjacent islands, you are not required to have a passport for travel.

A quilting cruise is a dream for my daughter and me. We think it would be such fun. (However, this year it’s out of the question because of my daughter’s illness…but we can dream and plan.)
So I’m always reading about them and trying to decide which would be the best. This morning, when I received the notice about McCall’s Quilting Adventures in New Zealand, China and Guatemala for 2009, I began thinking about it again.
