Create Your Own Organized Home Entryway System

Earlier we looked at Console Tables & Benches, Shoe Storage, Coat Storage, and Key & Mail Storage. Lastly, I figured we’d look at a couple of extra tidbits that can help you out when it comes to organizing your entryway.

If all you have is a corner, then creating a nice entryway might be difficult. Some solutions that can help include corner and or wall solutions. We looked at some various wall solutions today, but here are a couple of corner pieces:

You can try something like a wall mounted cubby with hooks and bench, or just go for the cubby. I like this one from Sawdust City.

Finally I found two pretty cool tutorials for DIY entryways. Both look great, and seem like they could be completed for relatively little expense.

The Organized Home Entryway: Extra Organizing Tips

Earlier we looked at Console Tables & Benches, Shoe Storage, and Coat Storage. Mail and keys are another consideration for the perfect entryway set-up. If you choose a console with drawers, you can use those. You can also place a nice pottery or glass bowl on top of the table for keys, and a wooden or iron box on top of the table for mail.

If you’re going sans table-top, your next best option, if you want to keep mail and keys in the entryway, is to move to wall storage.

WoodWorx File Holder

This next wall storage solution does just about everything but wash dishes – seriously, the Wall Mail Organizer with Charging Station charges, hold mail and keys, and has plenty of extra space.

Wall Mounted Mail Organizer & Key Rack – simple and looks good. Very understated.

For a more artistic soul, there’s the Clote Key Holder. Really unique, although, you do pay for that aspect, as this key holder is more expensive.

The Organized Home Entryway: Key & Mail Storage

Earlier we looked at Console Tables & Benches and Shoe Storage. If you have both a hall closet and an entryway, coat storage is likely not an issue. If you don’t though, you’re going to have to look for some different entryway options.

Everyone is aware of typical coat hangers and coat stands; but you can also choose something a little more unique.

The Mod Ball Coat Rack will add some pop to your entryway. It’s best if you have white walls though. Seen at Ohdeedoh.

Alluminio Coat/Umbrella stand

Stretto Coat rack & mirror – wall mounted to save space. I’d be a little worried about poking an eye out, but it’s a nice solution for small spaces. Available with or without mirror.

James Irvine: Big 5 Modern Coat Rack – mod, cool, and comes in great colors. Plus, it takes up almost no space at all.

If you’d like to hang something low for the kids, it might as well be super cute and pretty. I like this Kinderkram: Bird With Nest Coat Rack.

The Organized Home Entryway: Coat Storage

Earlier we looked at Console Tables & Benches. Now we’re going to take a look at the shoe component. Now depending on the large entryway piece you choose, you may not need extra shoe storage. However, if you go with a piece that has no storage, or you can’t afford the space for a large piece of furniture, then you may want to consider extra shoe storage.

Here are some options:

Solid Pine Shoe Rack – this is cool because it hides shoes away neatly.

Modular Shoe Racks from Woodlore:

The Metropole Coat Umbrella Hat Stand With Shoe Rack is handy, combining coat, umbrella, and shoe storage.

The Organized Home Entryway: Shoe Storage

Having an organized home entryway can spiffy up your entire house. One, it’s the first thing you see when you walk in, and can set your whole home mood. Two, it keeps items that shouldn’t be all over the place, in one simple place. Three, you’ll lose things less (think keys.

In order to set up a decent home entryway, the first thing you’ll need is a focal location for collecting gear. Ideally, you need one basic entryway piece, that’s large enough for the whole family. A table, a dresser-like system, or a cubbie solution. Something with hide-away drawers is preferable to open space (it looks tidier).

Following are some options:

A basic, but lovely Barnwood Sideboard from Woodland Creek Furniture & Gallery. Items from this shop are built to last and can be custom sized. I love this one, because of all the little drawers – one for mail, one for keys, and so on.

Aristo Halifax Brown Console Table – a little more sleek (maybe for couples without kids, or with well behaved ones).

You could go with a bench style piece. The issue here is less top storage, but then kids can sit and pull off shoes. If you choose a bench, look around and see if you can find one with underneath storage, and assume that you’ll need a wall hanging place, or an additional table for items like keys. This Batavia – Entryway Bench w/ Basket is a good example of a bench with some extra storage.

If you go with a bench type entryway piece, it’s best to get one that combines all elements – cubbie, bench, shelves, and so on. This Brady 4-Piece Open Entryway Suite from Pottery Barn is a great example of a multifunctional entryway piece.

If you want something ultra simple, this Cubbie with Bench is perfect, although it is less suited to adults.

Learn to make your own untreated wood console table. This one is really pretty and rustic looking. Plus it’s got those pull out drawers.
