Stewie Griffin’s favorite book

I wrote yesterday about how Goodnight Moon is a household favorite and part of my son’s bedtime ritual. It had escaped me at the time, but I was reminded by a friend that Goodnight Moon is also Stewie Griffin’s favorite book on the show Family Guy.
I then began to wonder if my son’s assassin-like attempts on me and my wardrobe and Stewie’s attempts on his mother’s life were somehow related to their affinity for Goodnight Moon. I’m beginning to wonder if it’s the childhood equivalent of The Catcher In The Rye which, according to urban legend, was a literary …read more

Reader-suggested Dad Blogs

Blogging is a great way for dad’s to keep in touch and compare notes with other involved fathers. Fatherhood blogs provide an opportunity for less communicative dads to learn about expert fatherhood techniques, like burping to soothe infants, or just to realize that other dads are equally amazed the first time they hear their child laugh.
Many of the readers of Inside Fatherhood are also dad blog writers and readers, so here are some favorites Dad blogs suggested by readers of Inside Fatherhood.

To Graco’s credit

A short time after I wrote my recent post “Graco thinks dads are stupid” I was contacted by the Graco company. I must say I was a little surprised at first to hear that they wanted to speak with me, but I willingly took the opportunity. I exchanged a few brief emails with a company representative which culminated in a phone conversation with their public relations manager.
Before the call I was unsure of what to expect. I didn’t think they would have cared beyond the fact that, in my opinion, their slogan “Ask moms who know” stinks. In my post …read more

A mom sticks up for dads

Sherry over at Inside Motherhood posted quite an interesting list of her pet peeves about how society portrays dads. Not quite what I expected from a motherhood blog, but right on! She makes some great points as these things make me mad, as well.
Peeve number 1, dads are portrayed as inept.
How many commercials or movies or TV plots revolve around a father who is just completely stupid when it comes to kids? The man may be a CEO of a major corporation or able to argue intense cases in court, or perhaps he can assemble a museum’s dinosaur …read more

The Joy of 4 am Feedings

I’ve already been told repeatedly that once my son is born I will never sleep again, ever, and I’ve accepted that. I don’t sleep a ton now because there’s always something going on between my full-time job and a tightly scheduled life.
However, contrary to what so many people espouse as the worst part of dealing with a newborn Temple 3 proclaims it to be one of his favorites. This new father loves his 4 am feedings because it’s among the precious little time he has to spend with his child
“It’s the only time you have to hold them and …read more
