When we first realized my ovaries were damaged beyond repair from chemotherapy and radiation, my oncologist strongly suggested that I add calcium supplements to my routine. Why? Because he feared the estrogen provided by birth control pills or other hormone replacement therapies wouldn’t be enough to stave off the increased risk of osteoporosis.
