Looking to the Moon and the Stars …

I am a casual follower of astrology. What I mean by that is that I read my horoscope once a week, when the local free weekly comes out. I’m  a Leo and a fairly typical Leo, for the most part. Free Will Astrology is my favorite horoscope to follow. You can see yours here. Here’s what my latest horoscope says:
This horoscope presents three clues for you to work with. Here’s the first: I know a psychotherapist’s son who, while growing up, rarely received the benefits of his father’s psychological expertise. “The shoemaker’s child has no shoes,” my friend says. Here’s …read more

Bachelor Jason’s Decision

Did you happen to catch the finale of The Bachelor last night?
I used to be a fan of the show, until I decided that the way the show worked actually hindered the couple’s ability to build a relationship. Keeping them apart for a long period of time? The ridiculous making out with woman after woman or man after man. Who would be cool with that in the end?
Now I’m of the opinion that yes, some people would like to meet the man or woman of their dreams, but more often than not, these people just want to be on TV.

Seasonal Attraction and Just What Does Beyonce Mean When She Says “Put A Ring On it?”

Micah Toub has a new bi-weekly column in the Globe and Mail.
For his first column he discusses the role of season and romance. Are men more attracted to women’s bodies in the warm weather or cold weather?  Apparently studies, and Micah’s experience, show that women are more attractive to men in the Winter. Perhaps this has to do with cuddling up for warmth on a cold night, but as a woman, I can say that I am feeling more frisky in the Spring and Summer months. I like to see some skin. I like to touch a man’s arms and …read more

Dating and Dodging Bullets

I was emailing with a guy at Plenty of Fish, I mentioned him last week, the one who is not divorced, but separated.  I was out of town, visiting family for the weekend and I took a break from chatting with him. While I was away, he went on a date with a lady and he emailed me Wednesday night to say that he was no longer on the market. He said that he wasn’t a “player” or something along those lines.
I appreciated the email – it’s preferable to being blown off – but today I started thinking about it again. I sometimes over …read more

My Mom and Date.com

I set up a online dating personal ad for my mom at Date.com this weekend. Mom is a lovely 63-year-old woman. We live in a small town and I see a lot of mature men around, but meeting them, that’s the hard part. Mom works at a foster family agency and single gentlemen her age don’t come into her work. Her interests include working in the garden, yoga, hiking, dancing…. all put the dancing is a solitary pursuit.  Meeting new people, it can be challenging. It would be wonderful if she could find a dance partner, at the very least.
Mom is cute, …read more

Could I Be A Cougar?

This morning I checked my Plenty of Fish account and I had two emails in there. One from a young man of 24. I am 42. It said something along the lines of, “Great pics. What’s up?”
Well, young man, I am reading my messages while I wait for my new son, Greg, (I inherited a  teenager a few weeks back) to come out here so that I can give him a ride to school.
I thought about various number-related comparisons, like…. I am 18 years older than he is. My son, Max, is 18, so I’m an entire Max’s lifetime older …read more

He’s Just Not That Into You – Interview

I have a friend who says to me, “No answer is your answer.”  I think that this is something that she got from the book, He’s Just Not That Into You. I’ve never read the book, although I’ve read blurbs and bits and I think it would be useful to read, but still…….. another book? Can I have an extra hour in the day?? (No seriously, please??).  I will, however, be watching the movie.
I remember reading about Drew Barrymore, who is both a star in the movie as well as one of the producers, getting together with Justin Long either …read more

Men Cut Back On Dating In Tough Economic Times

Apparently, many men are choosing to not date these days. They can’t afford it because finances are tight or they are jobless. Either way, men are conditioned to fulfill certain stereotypical dating roles. The biggest one – the man pays, can be next to impossible to fulfill sometimes. The article that I read mentions that one man thinks about dating a woman and decides, well it will cost about the same as my power bill, so he decides to skip it.
Hhmm… First, why does a date have to be a big expense?  Is that what really matters to us women?  …read more

My eHarmony Experience

I’ve done several online dating sites in my life, with varied success. I had met my last boyfriend on Lavalife and had a pretty good experience on it about 4 years ago, so when I saw all the cheesy eHarmony commercials with the happy couples, I decided to give it a try. It was the first time I had to pay to use an online dating service so I was expecting some decent results. I tried their 3 month option, for $120.
At first it seemed pretty neat. How eHarmony works, is they make you take a personality test, where they …read more

My Meet Market Adventures Experience

A few weeks ago, a girlfriend of mine asked me to accompany her to an event sporsored by Meet Market Adventures. Meet Market puts on tons of events in cities accross North America that facilitates meeting new people. They do vacations, some online dating stuff and local events to just mingle with others. The event I was at was a trivia game held in a pub, but they do other events like scavenger hunts, white water rafting, camping, etc.
They did a really great job at organizing it and making us interact with each other. It was all-in-all a pretty fun …read more
