I’ve been a Skype user for quite a while now. Though, I’ve never considered it as a medium to meet the man of my dreams just for the reason that I only use it for personal [family & friends] and work reasons.

I do wonder about it, though.

I’m not one of them, you see. I was never the daddy’s girl. I wasn’t fortunate enough to have established a workable relationship with him. That’s why I can only speculate on how these women have turned out.

• Do you look for the same qualities that your father has in your partner?
• Do you find yourself drawn to men who remind you of what you have with your dad or simply just reminds you of the man?
• Is this an important consideration in choosing who you date?

Like what I read in this article about a girl named, Alyse, who married a long time acquaintance, Joe, soon after she lost her own father. I got the impression that she’s pretty close to her dad and I did find out that she admires her father’s life ethics and athleticism. Something she found that she had in common with the guy she married.

One thing that struck me the most was when it was mentioned that the feel of the guy’s hand reminded her of her father’s — it was a man’s hand, she said. I guess, the reason why it was highlighted was because it was a contributing factor to her deciding to be with the guy despite her current stand then to forego serious relationships due to her father’s death.

I’m a bit baffled. Though I know that there were other reasons for the match, the thought that something as small and, somewhat, trivial as this can trigger such a drastic decision remains a mystery to me. What could have possibly gone through her mind?

If you have thoughts about the matter, I’d appreciate some. I sure need some sort of reason behind this thingie that seems so foreign to me. Hahaha.

Dating For A Daddy’s Girl

First was a quick comparison on married and single life. I learned a thing or two. And it was amusing, too.

Looking through romantic movies that will occupy my single life. That is, if I haven’t watched any of them. I have. And, I don’t think I can sit through Titanic again. Ugh.

I also came across a good backgrounder for single women who are planning to get marriend. Either we learn to do it on purpose or to avoid it at all cost. Hahaha.

There’s also this bit about reasons for marrying the first AND second time around. Introspection came too late but not late enough to get it right the second time. I’m glad to know that there people who do get married for the right reasons.

Now, for you people who love songs. Either the kind that tells a story about a break up, falling in love, yada, yada, yada. It’s a list of his top heartfelt picks.

Last but certainly not the least, I think this is my favourite, because what can you say about finding love in a blog? I experienced a melting feeling when I read that bit about them marrying 8 hours after their first meeting. Utterly impractical and, not to mention, risky! But I still found it romantic.

A Dame’s Perspective on Problogger’s Lists

I, for one, cannot sit in judgment over the matter but I do have opinions regarding it. I see the need for both and also their downsides. Secondly, I’m actually facing a dilemma that falls under it, which makes it hard to form an objective opinion.

Here’s the scenario, you went out with guy A who comes a bit short of your ideal, basing it on the conversation that transpired over a romantic dinner date. However, you found out that he can’t get past any strong argument you happen to have raised that it’s actually frustrating. In short, he’s not intellectually stimulating. But you know that he likes you a whole lot since he’s already laying some groundwork on establishing a somewhat regular dating thing between the two of you.

But there’s the question about guy B whom you’ve only been able to establish a stable [sort of] online relationship with. So, yea — you haven’t been able to go out with him on a date since circumstances wouldn’t allow it, i.e. distance. But this guy you know you like and have even admitted it to him. In fact, it’s a you-wouldn’t-hesitate-to-jump-into-bed-the-moment-you-meet-him kind of attraction that he stirred in you and that’s not just due to the fact that you find his intelligence sexy. Only problem is you don’t know if he sees you the same way.

Do you see the dilemma?

I’ve already mentioned that I have inhibitions regarding online dating. Not that it’s all bad but I just think it’s too risky for the kind of emotional investment you’ll have to put in. And about the actual dating scene perse, I’m not particularly keen on it, too, since it involves playing the so-called game. However, since I do want to find my soulmate, I’m giving both areas the benefit of the doubt. How else can I go about doing this if not that, right?

Now I can have immediate gratification if I do go with guy A since he’s physically present and yea, likes me a lot. Or, by principle, I can tough it out with guy B even if it poses a risk of not having the feelings reciprocated and distance is the least bit of the problem.

Anyway, I need to make a decision. What road do you think I should take?

Immediate Gratification or Principled Dating?

I visited her in Denison, Texas on my 78th Birthday, and she visited me in Redondo Beach on her 70th Birthday, April 30th. The phone bills, the emails and the “American Greetings” have been clogging the phone lines for several months now. We both have homes that are really nice, and while I have kids and grand kids from my 47 year marriage (widower), she has in-laws from two marriages (widowed twice). We have more visits before we settle down. It has been trying, but fun.  We are working on the legal aspects of the coming marriage (we are engaged).  Read the whole story of Mayrene and Charles

Personally I think it’s very sad that the world has become such a place that they would even have to work out all the “legal aspects” but it has.  Hopefully they will get beyond that soon and get onto grabbing hold of as much happiness as they can!  Who knows, it may even add a few youthful years to their lives!  Nothing like feeling like a kid again
