Calling All Petite Clothing Designers!

]]> 170525240_2aca345015_m.jpgI promise you, I truly understand that there are profound circumstances taking place in our world today: The war in Iraq, global warming, a missle in North Korea pointed at Seattle, Nicole Kidman’s wedding, et al…but there is also a retail situation going on that has me just as skittish.

Large department stores, such as Bloomingdales, Sak’s Fifth Avenue and the like…have either cut out or grossly diminished their petite clothing lines. (This tells us that either it’s true we’ve become a nation of obese people, or petite sized women simply don’t matter to designers). I think the latter.

Oh…the horrah!

No disrespect to “normal-sized” folks…but as a 5′2″–small-framed woman…trying to find clothing that fits properly, while not looking like a school district administrator, has been one of the pre-occupations of my working life…that and, of course, shoes. Believe me, skulking around in the boys department is not my idea of a lovely shopping experience.

This news, about such an obvious department store transgression, has caused hysterical anxiety among petite customers of these stores–I don’t understand why there has not been a very loud “A Ha” moment among young and upcoming designers?

Since not everyone is a 6′, burger deprived Gisele-type or Hollywood starlet, I am begging designers to make us some clothes — for work and play…that actually celebrate our form and make us look as if we too could work for Vogue!

I’m sure if we asked nicely, Anna Wintour could make this happen!

Find the music you like, not your husband’s
Find a book that’s not on Oprah’s list
Ride your bike
Volunteer in your community
Get a complete medical check-up
Teach your dog to hug you
Visit a spa and get a facial; better yet a massage.

Go shopping!
