Weight Watchers: Are You With the Program?

I’m not currently on the Weight Watchers (WW) program, but am interested in how many of my readers are. I have been on WW a few times in the past, most recently last year, for about a month. I was working full-time (out of the home) and gave up after losing 10 pounds.
Why’d I give up? Time — lack of it, really. No time to count my points, no time to cook healthy meals or plan ahead for lunch at work. I know that WW has a new Core program, which allows you to eat healthy without counting points — …read more
Weight Progress 12/13: A Bad Week

This has not been a great week for me, I’ll admit. Not just with my weight, but with life in general. I find that the more stress I’m experiencing, the less I pay attention to what I am eating. Frankly, the less I could care. I tend to think that is true of most people who have weight issues. Am I wrong? Drop me a line in the comments and let me know how you deal with stress when this happens to you.
Well, I definitely let stress get to me this week. If I go into any further detail, you’ll …read more
Monday Motivation: Get Over the Guilt and Back on Track
December 1, 2008 by Diane Penna

Okay, it’s Monday. It’s a new week and hopefully by now the leftovers are gone. It’s time to put the last 4 days behind you and get back on track. Don’t feel guilty. We all slip, but we also deserve to splurge once in a while.
If you can put the past behind you and live through today with renewed self-confidence and motivation, you can do anything.
Smile and say aloud, “Nothing matters more than that I feel good,” and you’ll be on your way!
Best wishes for the week ahead,
Diane

Did your weight loss progress survive Thanksgiving dinner? I was worried about gaining back a significant portion of my 10-pound loss, but was surprised when I hopped on the scale this morning.
This week’s progress:
Two pounds gained, which didn’t surprise me one bit. I ate mostly healthy stuff, didn’t snack and didn’t drink (too much).
Starting Weight: 180
Current Weight: 182
This week’s slips:
Let’s see: pumpkin pie, whipped cream, cranberry sauce, lots of carbs and a good dose of gravy. Enough said.
This week’s successes:
I think getting through Thanksgiving with only a 2-pound gain is a success. My goal was to make it through with …read more
My Plan to Survive Thanksgiving Dinner

I admit I don’t have a healthy relationship with food. After years of being told I ate too much, and especially after having weight loss surgery, I became extremely aware of people watching me when I ate. Perhaps I imagined it, but I swear I could see them watching what I put on my plate, how much I put on there, and then how much of it I ate. Even if I chose healthy foods and ate very little, I still felt self-conscious.
So…you can imagine the fear I have about holiday meals. I dread them, especially since I’m usually not …read more
Spend Black Friday at Gold’s Gym

If you are anything like me, you are not interested in standing in line for hours in the dark and cold, just so you can get a free miniature snow globe with your holiday shopping purchase. Nope. It’s not for me.
I’ll be spending the day at home, putting my toy order in online — but if I didn’t live in the middle of nowhere, I’d take a trip to the local Gold’s Gym after doing my internet shopping.
From November 28th through the holiday weekend, Gold’s Gym will be hosting a “Trim the Fat Friday” program. For this one weekend, you …read more

I’m so sorry I’m a few days late with my weekly update!
I’ve been away from the computer for a few days, packing and driving my kids to my parents for some housesitting. I don’t know about you, but times that are busy and stressful like now (around the holidays) are always spent worrying about my weight.
The good news is that nothing has changed on the scale — but that’s also the bad news.
This week’s progress:
No pounds gained, but no pounds lost. I suppose I can live with that.
Starting Weight: 180
Current Weight: 180
This week’s slips:
Is it my fault if my husband …read more
Overweight and Trying to Get Pregnant?

I have talked a lot lately about hormone imbalances and how they contribute to weight gain, but I haven’t mentioned much about the same being true in reverse. Yet, you can throw your hormones off balance by losing or gaining too much weight.
I’m not a medical professional, but look at these two facts:
Severely underweight individuals will often stop menstruating altogether.
Overweight individuals have higher rates of thyroid disorder, diabetes, infertility, and polycystic ovary syndrome or PCOS.
There is some “chicken and the egg” debates about whether weight issues are a cause of these disorders or merely a symptom of them. However, …read more
Weight Gain and Hormones, Losing the Fat

In my last post, I promised you details on how I lost the weight I had gained during a hormone imbalance.
After finding a more positive mind-set and reaffirming my self-worth, I lost all the weight and got in shape by doing the following:
I purchased a one-month supply of Herbalife products.
This included meal replacement powder, vitamins, and other supplements. While I don’t think meal replacements and supplements are necessary for weight loss, they were for me. I needed the help to jump-start the loss. Once I lost 20 pounds, I had regained control of my appetite. I was so motivated …read more
Weight Gain and Hormones, Your Mind-Set

Last week in Weight Gain and Hormones, Part Two, I talked about the fact that while hormone imbalances may contribute to weight gain, it is up to us to work to get that fat back off our bodies.
Today, I have something extra special for you. I had so much to share with you that I have multiple posts for you. I felt this information was too important to wait another week. I’m going to explain why your mind-set is important to your weight loss, explain how I lost the weight I had gained, and then tomorrow I’ll discuss a little …read more
