The Reagan Diaries Released

This week the 784 page The Reagan Diaries was released. That’s a whole lot of reading. Apparently Reagan was considered the most detailed president when it came to writing in his journal. Let me know if you read this. Please share in the comments section below.

Paris To Write a Prison Diary

Yet another celebrity will take up the journal pen to write their memoirs. According to this news story Paris Hilton plans to write about her prison experience while serving time. Personally, I can’t see that it would be very interesting, but she does have celebrity on her side. I’m sure someone will buy it. I can’t help wondering if she will actually write it or simply hire someone, though.

Ronald Reagan

Apparently Ronald Reagan was not a journal keeper, but did keep a meticulous diary during his term as president of USA. Read excerpts from his diary here. There are also sample pages of his handwriting in a slideshow format. Makes interesting reading.

Getting Organised

Getting Organised

For people who love to keep themselves organised a journal is a must. While I wouldn’t call myself the most organised person around, I do use my journal to get certain things in order; such as for planning what to pack when going away on a trip. I write a list in my journal, which I check off to make sure everything was included. I can also use this list to be certain I have everything going back into my suitcase.
Those four or five subject notebooks can be really handy if you’re this kind of person. You can use …read more

I’m giving a Talk

Yesterday I received a call from a friend that surprised me. I had agreed to help out by giving a talk for the Society of Women Writers, Western Australia, but thought she meant in a little while; at least in a couple of months. Imagine my reaction when she asked me to talk in a little over two weeks.
At first I asked her if I could think about it. Hubby and I discussed the idea and I agreed to do it. My topic is Understanding Blogging and Online Journaling. If you’re anywhere near I hope you can drop in …read more

Clue to Earhart Mystery Found in Diary

I read this news story early yesterday evening and wanted to share it with you immediately. But, after working and shopping for a couple of days at the Perth Bead & Gem show I was simply too tired.
The story is quite long, but definitely worth reading. Amelia Earhart disappeared some 70 years ago while attempting another of her world first flights. The latest clue to what may have happened, adding to a long list of clues, comes from a diary which only recently came into the hands of a member of The International Group for Historic Aircraft Recovery, or …read more

Stolen Diary

Stolen Diary

I couldn’t help feel a little disturbed after reading this news story about murdered cricket coach Bob Woolmer. Murder is disturbing at any time, but the story included the mention that his diary was missing.
I couldn’t help wondering if he was killed for what that diary contained. Which lead me to think about what I’m writing in mine. Should I take care for what details I include? Does something like this make you nervous? Write about this in your journal today.
Please share your thoughts in the comments section below.

More on Freedom Writers

The Freedom Writers have made interesting fodder for this blog here and here, but apparently their book has been ‘banned” from one school for its controversial adult content.
Take time to read the article, but also the comments beneath. What are your thoughts on allowing students of upper grades to read controversial books in the classroom? Jot down your thoughts in a journal entry today.

Gruesome Monster Diaries

Gruesome Monster Diaries

While out shopping with my daughter today we came across the book The Monster Diaries with stunning illustrations by Poly Bernatene. Even though the pictures are somewhat gruesome and the topic bizarre, the illustrations are intriguing in their details and use of line and colour. The diary entries are also quite humorous. A very different take on the idea of keeping a journal, but looks to me like the perfect gift for those difficult to excite teens.
Bernatene is an Argentinean artist with other titles on Amazon.com and a couple of other blogs to check out.
