So the hubs and I have been contemplating getting a Nintendo Wii since last year. For Christmas we don’t buy each other gifts, we just choose one thing for the house or for ourselves to splurge on. It was a really tight race between a new digital video camera and a Wii.
So the hubs and I have been contemplating getting a Nintendo Wii since last year. For Christmas we don’t buy each other gifts, we just choose one thing for the house or for ourselves to splurge on. It was a really tight race between a new digital video camera and a Wii. Capturing our son’s precious moments won out…blah, blah whatever. I mean haven’t you seen America’s Funniest Home Videos? How many toddlers kicking their fathers in the crotch do you need to see?

I’m trying not to regret the decision but the Wii has continued to call my name. So yeah now the Wii Fit thing, umm really I think I must have it. In fact I might be willing to give up the aforementioned child in exchange for one. Am I being really silly? Yes most likely. I want to know how it works for you. Here is the place to weigh in. Thoughts and advice are welcome. Rants or raves?

Michael Dow released a book this May called The Pen and Paper Diet. It promises to help you lose weight by eating all you want. Really? How? Well let’s find out what comes with book from the website:

A discussion to show you the common sense and logic that this diet is based upon (people with educational backgrounds ranging from a high school dropout (non-GED) to an MD have understood and grasped the concepts in this book).

A personal example of how to keep track of your calorie consumption.

A discussion on the stages that you will progress through by using this diet.

Worksheets/Tables that will help you find your estimated calorie requirement based on scientific research. [The basic edition (US$14.95) has worksheets that require you to add or subtract twice and multiply once to determine your estimated calorie requirement. The Expanded edition (US$39.95) was intended for health professionals and has the math already performed. It lists estimated calorie requirements for individuals from age 19 to 84 and is over 450 pages.]

An appendix that lists the calorie info for the majority of foods and drinks you should come into contact with to assist you in tracking calories.***contains calorie information for pork products***

Sounds interesting huh? Basically, it’s a management book which is pretty much tracking down what you eat. Educating yourself of the daily calories intake and hopefully adding much needed exercise. The latter needs to be part of any “diet” IMO.

Buy The Pen and Paper Diet at Lulu store for $14.95 if you’re interested.

Lluch and I am loving it. Well the concept anyway..lol. I haven’t actually used it yet. It’s a journal and organizer in one with all the essentials anyone needs when trying to keep track of weight loss.

The first part of the diet and journal organizer deals with educating ourselves about our body, health, nutrition and exercise. Yah know, basic stuff.

The organizer includes a mini-pocket organizer which you could carry with you anywhere. So if you’re going to restaurants, or on vacation, you could still keep track of what you eat and drink.

I’m guessing as soon as you get in the car you’ll start writing down your food and beverage intake. Writing down what you eat daily is a imperative in losing weight. This is how you’ll know what is working and what isn’t.

The journal organizer also provides a 6-month progress chart. Kinda like the chart when you were born and your parents had to take you to the Doctor and they mark your weight ( and height) every month. Except this time, you want your starting weight to go down, not go up . And then, here’s my favorite, “I Did It” Stickers. You could use the sticker to mark your accomplishments. A huge part of the book is the daily journal where you could write down what you eat and drink and how much exercise you do on a daily basis. In the upper right side corner of each day is a star where you could stick your “I Did It” stickers. Sound so fun isn’t it?

In the back of the journal/organizer is an organizer packets where you could store menus, recipes, articles, shopping lists, meal plans, tips and advice, nutritional facts and miscellany stuff. If you love organizing, you’d think this side of the journal is Orgasmic…LOL. If you’re an organizer who’s trying to lose weight, then this diet journal and organizer is definitely for you. Keep track of everything in one neat nifty organizer. with star stickers no less. I like it so much I’m almost hesitant to mark it with my penmanship, hehe. But I know I must and I will. I can’t wait to start. I might have to increase my little exercise just so I could use my organizer.

Lose Weight Now : Diet Journal & Organizer by Alex A. Lluch is from WS Publishing Group. You can get your own copy at Amazon.com for $15.56.

Yeah, sue me, coz I’m trying Alli. I’ve never been good with diet pills except with TrimSpa. I like that stuff, kidding you not. It works for me. But TrimSpa does work for me, except that it’s expensive. I used it last year for a month(April) actually and it worked perfectly. I was leaner back then. But it’s been a while.
Yeah, sue me, coz I’m trying Alli. I’ve never been good with diet pills except with TrimSpa. I like that stuff, kidding you not. It works for me. I’ve tried Metabolife and Hydroxycut in my early years and it’s just did not for me. Like every diet and exercise plan, it’s different results for everybody. But TrimSpa does work for me, except that it’s expensive. I used it last year for a month(April) actually and it worked perfectly. I was leaner back then. But it’s been a while. I figured I’d try Alli and see how I’d like it.

So far so good. I just started Monday. It stops my craving. I’m sitting and working during the day and thinking to myself, “wait, I’m usually munching on something at this time of the day“. LOL. What I also like about it is that with Alli, I MUST take my vitamins. It’s part of the process. Take Alli during the day, 1/meal, then the vitamin before bedtime. Alli instructions specifically says you must supplement with vitamins so I haven’t forgotten to take my vitamins . I haven’t experienced any of the bad side effect I’ve read. Thank goodness.

Since I’m doing good with that aspect, I should try harder with my exercise routine. I’ll update everyone after a month. Let’s hope it’s a positive one .

DISCLAIMER : I am in no way advocating Diet Pills. This is my journey and health, what works for me might not work for other people. I will not be responsible for your own actions. Thank You.

Being a problogger means grabbing snack to munch on whenever you can, while in front of the computer working. That’s another habit I need to cut back on besides sugar. Chocolate Truffles, Flaming Hot Cheetos, Chocolate Chip Cookies, etc, are my enemies. I should stick with gum since you actually burn calories when you chew gum. Or I could check out iVillage’s Snack swapper to find out the healthiest substitute to my snack cravings.

According to the Snack swapper, dark chocolate is good for your heart thanks to it’s antioxidants contents. But, don’t forget that it still contains calories. It suggested dark chocolate in moderation. For example, 3 dipped strawberries in dark chocolate OR 1 Hershey’s Miniatures Special Dark chocolate.

Check out the Snack Swapper to find the healthiest alternatives to your favorite treats. Coincidentally enough, my husband got me a bar of Hershey’s dark chocolateand I only ate the 1st row pieces. I’ll save the rest for 2 separate days. I’m moderating .

So today in my usual press release rush I happened upon something that really got me thinking: SmallStep.gov. My portion control has a tendency to get slightly off track, and I thought that this is a cool resource to get everything back under control. This site discusses drinking fresh juice and sparkling water, club soda and lemon, and alternative sweeteners.
Here are some of the cool tips I picked up from SmallStep.gov:
1. Drink a glass of water before your meal to help you feel more full.
2. Put your food on a plate, even if it’s already in a microwaveable ready-to-serve dish.

3. A continuation of #2– buy smaller plates! You will eat less if you have less space to put it on.

4. Check the labels to make sure that your individually-sized muffin is actually one serving. They can be two or more and equal 700 calories in one punch, plus tons of fat.

5. Discover your fruit and snack pleasures, like cold apples, crisp lettuce, or fresh pineapple, and try to always keep some on hand.

I’m a little irked by the Nutrisystem commericals that I’ve seen lately. I like Marie Osmond and damn she looks good. To quote her from the commercial and the ad on the website :

“I went on a Nutrisystem and lost 40 pounds..”

I’m sure the Nutrisystem worked and helped her. It’s quite obvious. But what’s missing on that commercial is the fact that she also spent months of training for Dancing With The Stars.

I think if you’re going to promote some Diet program, you MUST add the fact that diet alone didn’t help you reach your goal. And that’s the truth. Exercise is a must. Marie Osmond’s exercise was training for Dancing With The Stars.

I would love that bit added on the commercial and on the website. Upclose and right away, not some little disclaimer that nobody could read. Or worse, make us all all think that Nutrisystem alone did everything without the help of physical activity. That’s misleading!
