Pyroluria is a genetic condition that results in an abnormality in hemoglobin synthesis. Huh?

Pyroluria was initially described by Abram Hoffer, a pioneer in orthomolecular medicine and psychiatry. He found that kryptopyrroles, a by-product of hemoglobin, bind to vitamin B6 and then to Zinc and were eliminated through urine, causing deficiencies in those minerals.

Many times Pyroluria is seen with other imbalances such as histapenia, histadelia, high copper levels, or cerebral allergies. It is also the primary imbalance for 20% of schizophrenics.

However, medical experts are still wary about diagnosing pyroluria or even recognizing that patients have pyroluria because it is still considered a biomedical disorder.
Why?
Because of its transparent symptoms and its vitamin and mineral therapy.
With all of AJ’s medical issues this was one of the ones we were quite concerned about. Fortunately, he tested negative despite all of his symptoms. But, if you remember from my last post, pyroluria can also be connected to high copper levels.

The recommendation is for infants to take a vitamin drops the first few days and then for the first year.

It takes four-eight ounce glasses of fortified milk to get the 400 IU so your children would be swimming in milk if you tried to use just diet to get the recommended dose.

Try a multivitamin (one without sugar and corn).

The dosage information on the medicine labels were wrongly calculated based on age, not weight. Several children died because of over-medication from these products.

And then earlier this year, the agency warned against using over-the-counter cough and cold medicines for children under 2 years, and later to children up to 11 years. The American Academy of Pediatrics even weighed in that these drugs are ineffective for treating cough and cold, and so the FDA was urged to enforce a ban.

But the FDA has rejected a call to an immediate ban on cough and cold medicine, saying that the ban might drive parents to give adult medication to their children.

This is where it gets lost on me. If the dosage is wrong, and the drug is ineffective anyway, why is it still in the market?

Americans have been enjoying 100 years of clean drinking water that we wouldn’t know what to do without it. LIFE Magazine hailed the filtration and chlorination of water as “probably the most significant public health advancement of the millennium.” Chlorination of drinking water has helped eliminate waterborne diseases like cholera and typhoid fever. With it, life expectancy almost doubled from 47 years old in 1900 to 78 in 2006.

Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for nations outside the USA. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 1.1 billion people do not have access to safe drinking water, and nearly 2 million people die every year because of unsafe water.

It’s really not difficult to disinfect and safely store water in individual households, especially in places where piped water is not available. A recent study by the WHO found that household-based chlorination is the most cost-effective way to reduce these waterborne illnesses.

September 26 marks the 100 years of clean water in the US. Now, let’s make it a better world for people outside our shores too. There is something very simple we can each do:

Take the Clean Water Challenge Quiz, and the American Chemistry Council will contribute $0.20 for each correct answer, up to a total of $200,000. Twenty cents is the cost of five chlorine tablets designed to disinfect 100 liters of water. With your help, we can contribute enough to disinfect 100 million liters of household drinking water.

Childhood cancers are the number 1 disease killer of children. One in every 300 children will develop cancer before the age of 19. Now while the death rate from cancer has dropped significantly, about 2,300 children still die each year from cancer. Although 75% of children are cured, some forms of cancer are just so resistant that prognosis is very poor.

The Stand Up to Cancer episode last week reminded us of just how much work still needs to be done. So what can we do to help?

Chili’s is giving away 100% of its profits on September 29 to St. Jude Foundation, to helpf fund cures and help children fight the disease.

No, really, it’s easy. Just eat at Chili’s. It’s seems a weird way to help out right, but Chili’s has been a partner of the hospital fro five years, and they are doing a great job.

Kendra of A Hearty Life asks, “Do you think that school lunches are healthy? They have changes over the years, but for the better? Take my poll…
