Docs Talk: Why You Should (Almost) Never Lie To Your Doctor

Docs Talk: Why You Should (Almost) Never Lie To Your Doctor

A few months ago, Slate featured a bunch of articles from women explaining why they were opting to live child-free. One woman’s submission about getting her tubes tied at 26 was caught my attention. In the piece, the writer admits to committing a cardinal healthcare sin: She lied to her doctor to get the procedure done. Daily Fail: Maybe You Shouldn't See A Nutritionist For Bowel Cancer

Today in Daily Mail news … Nutritionists are putting your health at risk! They “ignore alarming symptoms” and rely on non-medically-sanctioned tests. In other words: Nutritionists are not doctors. According to a study published this month in the journal Obesity, physicians who were overweight or obese were far less likely to diagnose obese patients than docs in the normal weight range. More »

Legalizing marijuana would help doctors make better use of it in medical treatments, says the California Medical Association, in an official endorsement for legalizing the drug. California’s largest physician organization couldn’t have picked a better time to announce this update to it’s ‘cannabis policy’: Popular support for pot legalization (for whatever reason) has reached a record high, a new Gallup poll finds. Michael Jackson Death Trial: New Voice Recordings Add Evidence Of Doctor's Malpractice

The trial of Michael Jackson‘s personal physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, (also referred to as the ‘Michael Jackson Death Trials’) began yesterday, and kicked off with the release of disturbing evidence pointing to Murray’s failure to responsibly administer medications. A voice recording of Jackson taken by Dr. Murray on his iPhone on May 10, 2009 reveals highly slurred speech that all but proves his doctor should have been aware of the need to adjust his medications. Health, Not Brought to You By Technology: 6 Professionals We Wouldn't Trade for Machines

A recent story in the New York Times asks, “Do Secretaries Have a Future?” implying that these days, technology trumps today’s Joan Holloways. Indeed, there are plenty of professionals whose livelihoods have been hurt by the advent of iPhones and DVDs, and they’re not just limited to offices and factories. Even in hospitals and juice bars, there are machines and screens to stand in for the people whose jobs make us healthy and happy. Without them things might be a little cheaper, but ultimately, we’re less healthy and happy. (And for the record, we always think Joanie deserves a job.) More »
