Crufts, the premier dog show in England, has just announced that they will be broadcasting the iconic dog show online!

“The Kennel Club has today announced that dog lovers worldwide will be able to see the action from Crufts 2009 live on the internet for the first time in the show’s history.

The live webcast will follow all of the events in the Arena programme, from Heelwork to Music and Agility to the Best in Group and Best in Show judging and the ever popular Friends for Life competition that rewards our dog heroes. There will also be a new element to the Arena programme where the winners of the We Love Our Dogs competition – which invited all dog owners to send in video clips and photographs of their happy, healthy dogs – will be announced. Peter Purves and Frank Kane will provide commentary for the live web stream, which will be interspersed with features showing the interviews and action from outside the Arena.”

Crufts used to be only available to those who subscribed to speciality channels, and it’s especially exciting that the streaming video is available world-wide!

You can catch the action beginning at 8:30am, March 5th through March 8th (check the website to adjust for your local time).  Crufts TV will also broadcast replays and highlights, but some services will only be available for subscribers.

Stump is the oldest dog to win the best in show title at the Garden and in fact, came out of retirement to do so.  That’s quite an accomplishment for a dog at any age – but for a 10 year old, that’s amazing!

Congratulations Stump!

Westminster Kennel Club dog show begins today in Madison Square Garden in New York City.  The dogs are being groomed, the handlers are prepping themselves and the red carpet has been unrolled for the canine superstars!

The first videos from the breed competitions are being posted online.  You can watch the first four groups (Hound, Terrier, Herding & Non-Sporting) compete tonight on various channels.

So who are you cheering for?

Let the show begin!

I love to watch the Westminster Kennel Club dog show every year.  I curl up on the couch with my dogs and watch the amazing competition.

But did you know that there is a series of dog shows before the “big” show?

You can now catch them all online – as well as expert commentaries, direct from the judges and more.  Everything starts on Thursday, February 5th and runs through the weekend.  Westminster begins on Monday the 9th, so you can enjoy six full days of dog shows!

Watch dog shows online!

Animal rights organizations (I won’t even name names here – they don’t need any more publicity) are campaigning to take away our rights to own dogs.  To own purebred dogs.  To own any animal!

If you think I’m exaggerating, check out some of the big animal-rights websites – there is a little section called “no birth nation”.  What does that mean?  It means they want to no longer have any animals in “captivity” and that includes our house dogs!

This appalls and disgusts me!  Can you really tell me that my pampered dogs, who get home-made food, who sleep on my bed, who get daily massages – would really be happier living on the streets, scavenging for garbage?

If you’re as upset as I am at this state of affairs – take action!  There are things you can do to protect your rights as a dog owner.

First of all – the National Animal Interest Alliance (NAIA) is working towards humane treatment of animals, but unlike the other big animal-rights organizations, they’re pro-pet.  NAIA is worth supporting!

Let your government know that you won’t tolerate biased legislation that takes away your rights as a dog owner.

Do you enjoy watching the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show every year?  There is a campaign underway to cancel the broadcast.  Send a quick email to the USA Network and let them know that you support and enjoy the show.  Think it can’t be cancelled?  Think again!  Crufts (the biggest dog show in the UK) has been taken off the air because of an animal-rights campaign!

Don’t support businesses or publications that support the animal-rights organzations.

Take action – it’s worth it to keep our dogs where they belong, sleeping happily in our houses!

• Why it’s important to microchip your dogs – a Dachshund is reunited with his owners after going missing five years ago.
•  Want to know why I recommend getting your purebred puppy from a responsible breeder?  90 puppies were rescued from a backyard breeder in Florida – mostly toy breeds.
• Did you know that dogs are trained to sniff for cell phones now?  A prison in New Jersey is using specially-trained sniffer dogs to find cell phones that have been used to smuggle contraband into the jail.
• Remember Uno, the Best in Show winning Beagle from the Westminster Kennel Club dog show?  Macy’s has commissioned a float especially for this year’s Macy Parade.  Uno will ride along with David Frei before attending the National Dog Show as a special guest.
