Stocking Stuffers for Your Dog

We don’t usually buy any extra holiday gifts or treats for the dogs, though we may sneak an extra snack to them in the morning while we’re opening presents on Christmas (admittedly, that’s more for our benefit than theirs — they don’t know the difference!).
Talk To Me Treats would make a great stocking stuffer for your pooch, even if they’re the only thing in the stocking!
Talk To Me Treats are mint chew treats for dogs made with real dill, parsley and mint. Not only are they great tasting but are also low-fat and provide fresh breath. The treats …read more
Double Cheese Dog Treats

I like to make my own treats for my dogs because I like knowing what goes into them. It’s not always something I can do on a weekly basis, though, so for weeks where I know we’re going to be busy I like to make a double batch. Make sure you let the biscuits dry out completely before sealing them up in a container or they can go moldy.
These would also make a homemade great gift for the four-legged family members that belong to friends!

Bit-O-Luv Dog Treats

Being small dogs, my two chihuahuas generally only get one treat a day, and that’s usually at the end of the day before they go into their crate for the night. It’s nothing special, usually just a baked treat I’ve made for them, and they’ll eat it up before settling down.
I was recently sent a few bags of the Bit-O-Luv brand dog treats to try, and truth be told, I’ve never seen my dogs eyeball where it is I put the treats after I’ve given them one, but they know exactly which cupboard these are in! As soon as they …read more
Turkey Treats for Dogs

Though we’re not the kind of dog owners that treat our dogs as little people (ie dressing them up or taking them places, etc), we do have fun trying to include them in our “in house” activities if we’re able to, like getting them a new chew toy or doll for the holidays, or making them a special treat on our “treat” holidays (Easter, Valentine’s, etc).
This includes a fun treat made from cooked, leftover turkey that’s perfect for the Thanksgiving weekend. Because we don’t have leftover turkey until after the holiday is over (and don’t want to spend anymore time …read more
Tricky Treats — Halloween Treats for Dogs

I like making my own treats for my dogs because I know the ingredients that go into them are as fresh as they can be and there aren’t any fillers or extra salt or preservatives.
I hadn’t thought of making Halloween treats especially for them before! I came across this recipe for “Tricky Treats” and as soon as I get the ingredients for it together I’ll be making a batch for my dogs. True, they won’t know the difference nor will they care that they’re treats have a autumnal slant to them, but it’ll be fun for me and the kids …read more
Video: How to Make Doggy Trail Mix

It’s no secret that I love making treats and snacks myself for my dogs. I love knowing exactly what’s going into the treats, and by adding certain things that I know my dogs love, I know they won’t go to waste either.
In this series of videos, Melinda Cerritos of Four Paws Pantry in Virginia goes over the basics of making her doggy trail mix. She uses dry breakfast cereals, carob chips, butter, cheese powder, Pupperoni, and brown gravy mix. None of these are terribly healthy for your dog, so you wouldn’t want to feed this constantly — it’s a …read more

I’ve written before about how I like to make my own treats for our dogs. I like knowing exactly what’s going into the treats and of course, knowing how fresh they are. It’s also pretty economical, with each batch costing just a fraction of what store bought treats can run.

Dog Bone Biscuit Cutters

When I make dog treats for my dogs sometimes I like to go the extra step and use bone-shaped cutters (when I’m not in the mood I just roll the dough out and use a pizza cutter to make “nuggets“). These only really work on recipes that form a firm dough that can be rolled out.
The little one there in the center is the perfect size for our chihuahuas, and I’ve used the larger one on the left for my friends’ dogs. I don’t know anyone with a dog big enough for the largest size, but it doesn’t hurt to …read more
