Now, there’s pregorexia. According to Marijke at Womb Within, pregorexics exercise fiercely during pregnancy so they can shed the “baby weight” as quickly as possible.
Personally, I worked out hard during my pregnancy, but only to keep my body in shape. I gained an acceptable amount of weight and always kept my “tenant” in mind when eating and working out. I also lost weight rapidly after my son was born, mainly because …read more

Drunkorexia?

The popular site Salon.com had an interesting article on a condition I had never heard mentioned before: “drunkorexia.”
In the piece, author Tracy Clark-Flory notes:
“The New York Times reports that drunkorexia is ‘a disturbing blend of behaviors: self-imposed starvation or bingeing and purging, combined with alcohol abuse.’“
I had never heard of this “-orexia” before, and though it’s not an accepted term by medical standards, it does make one think.
If you’re intrigued, the full article can be found here: http://www.salon.com/mwt/broadsheet/2008/03/03/drunkorexia/. It’s worth a read.
(Susan, thanks for turning me on to this tidbit!)
