Flying Pregnant OK for Most

Regarding flying while pregnant, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) released a revised committee opinion on September 21.
The revised opinion, to appear in the October issue of Obstetrics & Gynecology, states that pregnant women can safely fly as long as they have an uncomplicated pregnancy. Women who may need emergency care should not fly at all during pregnancy.

For women with uncomplicated pregnancies, experts still suggest efforts to avoid blood clots, such as exercising legs, walking around, avoiding restrictive clothing and drinking liquids. ACOG also recommends that pregnant women should keep seat belts fastened while seated, and, in order …read more

According to the March of Dimes, a baby’s brain at 35 weeks weighs only two-thirds of what it will weigh at 40 weeks. That difference is significant given the very large numbers of so-called late preemies, those born between 34 and 37 weeks gestation.
