Of course, Mahar Dry Goods is no one hit wonder. There are several beautifully crafted Easter related things you’ll want to check out. How about a handmade Easter Bunny who comes with a little paper wheelbarrow that is just big enough to hold a few small Easter treats? Or maybe the wonderful little Bunny Scooter is more your speed. I know I would have really been excited to see one of these on Easter morning when I was little. And don’t even get me started on that sweet Chick Chair.

Hmm. I guess I should have looked twice at the stripes while I was cutting my Easter bunny softie out. The brown stripe on his face makes my fearless brother a bit nervous. He mentioned man eating and bunny in the same sentence. Because it is meant for one of them, I am waiting for a final verdict from the littles. If they think it is scary, too, I may have to make another bunny out of a different felted sweater that I have sitting around instead.

Anyway, if you’d like to make a bunny softie from a felted sweater, too, here’s a pattern and a mini tutorial:

Felt a sweater.

Print the pattern and lay out the pieces on the sweater. (The ear inserts and egg are cut from felt, as is the nose, which I just cut free hand.)

Put the wrong sides of the body together and then zigzag stitch around the outside, leaving the bottom open for stuffing. (If you want a less scruffy looking bunny, you can add a 1/4 inch seam allowance to the pattern, sew the pattern with the right sides together, clip the seams and then turn the body right side out.)

Put a pipe cleaner into each ear through the bottom of the body. These help you adjust the ears for personality.

Sew the arms together. I didn’t bother with pipe cleaners and stuffing because I was gluing them in position to hold the egg, but you could.

Stitch an arm to each side of the body.

Stuff the body and sew the bottom shut.

Attach the eyes and the tail.

Decorate the egg and attach it to the bunny arms. I used hot glue for this step.

Hot glue the bunny’s nose and ear inserts in place.
