Most eco-minded individuals have heard of car sharing and how it’s a healthy choice for the environment, and now there’s news that car sharing may be far healthier for human bodies too, not just the earth. Zipcar launched their 2009 Low-Car Diet this summer in which more than 250 people in cities in the U.S., Canada and London, gave up their personally owned car for one month, choosing instead to walk, bike, take public transit or Zipcar as necessary. The 2009 Low-Car Diet was supported by national sponsors and editorial partners, including Montague Corporation, HealthCentral.com and EverydayHealth.com.

Make any car more fuel efficient

While it might be nice if everyone went out and bought a hybrid, that’s not very realistic. What’s more realistic is realizing that hybrids be damned, you can green up your drive at least somewhat.

WHEN BUYING A CAR:

Buy the most fuel efficient car you can afford in the class and size you want. Overall though, going for a smaller car will usually score you some easy green auto points.

When it comes to your automobile, you have lots of nice green options currently available, and I don’t mean you have to invest in a hybrid or corn oil run car either.

Ditch the car: Of course, ditching your car is the greenest way to go. Not an offbeat house at all…

Still, I can’t stop thinking about it. Not since I saw it. I just keep thinking; add a toilet and solar cooker and you could move in.

So, this isn’t even a new car – I’m slower than slow about cars. Structures I get; cars, um, not so much. People are actually surprised when I can pump my own gas. (I grew up in Oregon).
