Corsets or bustiers are a perennial favorite for Halloween costumes – or any time you want to add some sex appeal to your outfit!
If you’d like to try sewing your own, there are lots of patterns available commercially now. In fact, Simplicity Patterns even has a corset pattern for the eco-friendly seamstress:

Rethinking & Reusing Textiles

I try and be an eco-friendly fiber artist and seamstress, but since the theme of this year’s National Sewing Month is “Reuse, Remake, Restyle”, I’ve been trying extra hard.
Because textile recycling is only just beginning, if you throw fabric or clothing away, it usually ends up in the landfill. Not a very good use of resources or land!
I think most of us have garments that are hanging in the back of the closet that we just can’t part with for one reason or another. Even if it’s been years since they’ve seen the light of day…

September is National Sewing Month

Did you know that September is officially National Sewing Month in the USA?
It’s actually been in effect since 1982 when Ronald Regan proclaimed that September would celebrate the efforts of home seamstresses.
Even though I don’t live in the USA, I don’t see any reason why I can’t celebrate too – how about if we proclaim September to be International Sewing Month instead?
This year’s theme is “Reuse, Remake, Restyle”. The National Sewing Month organization wants to see how creative you can be with reworking old fabric, thrifted clothes or even reusing materials that would normally end up in the landfill.
