Should Erectile Dysfunction Ads Be Banned?

Representative Jim Moran wants erectile dysfunction (ED) ads banned from broadcast radio and  TV between 6 am and 10 pm. He’s introduced a bill hoping to do just that. Moran wants the ads declared indecent by the FCC.

The problem here is that kids are asking grown-ups what ED is. If I were a kid, I’d be a bit mystified by those commercials as well.
While I’d certainly like to see far fewer ED ads on TV, I’m wondering about the true motivations behind this bill.

Erectile dysfunction as a warning: Diabetic men show symptoms of ED prior to heart disease

Erectile dysfunction is always a matter of the heart, but new research shows that more than romance is at stake. Two new studies of men with type 2 diabetes found that erectile dysfunction (ED) was a powerful early warning sign for serious heart disease, including heart attack and death.
The good news is that cholesterol-lowering medications could cut the risk of heart problems by about 1/3.  Viagra and other drugs alike might offer similar protection.

We know that erectile dysfunction is a manifestation of cardiovascular disease and can predict events such as heart attacks and stroke. Well, researchers decided to take a peek at post menopausal women and the correlation of heart disease and sexual dissatisfaction.
“Our study of sexually active postmenopausal women found dissatisfaction with sexual activity was not predictive of incident cardiovascular disease which may be due to physiological differences in sexual functioning between men and women, or to difficulty measuring sexual dysfunction in women,” added McCall-Hosenfeld.
