Obama Looks At Alternative Energy

With President Barack Obama now at the helm of the United States, people are wondering just what will happen to the country. After all, it is in an economic crisis at present and the President does need to focus on things that will help the country make its way back to its prime.
One of the things that the new President is doing is looking at alternative energy as a good source of power. Instead of shelling out billions of dollars on how to further improve production of fossil fuel that the country has, he is instead aiming at how to …read more

Sunrise Solar Tapped

And I can say that the Sunrise Solar Corporation is a lucky company. See, it has just been chosen to be the company to put in solar power systems on four of the largest hospitals in Brazil. In the report I came across today, it was said that Brazil has been looking at going solar and the country has already gone ahead by creating a project on developing alternative energy.
Eddie Austin is the head and the CEO of the mentioned solar company and on this, he said, “We look forward to increasing our project base in Brazil through the development …read more

Solar And Wind Power In Calgary Schools

There are some schools in Calgary which are going to be having solar panels or wind turbines. This is part of a program that Enmax has with the area’s school board. This project is Gen E and it is a pilot program which is aiming at teaching and promoting the advantages and benefits that come with conserving energy.
This is a real good way to teach and promote renewable energy and how to conserve energy. A school which has been granted solar panels or which has been given wind turbines could have kids experience first hand what these alternative energy tools …read more

Obama Just May Be Alternative Energy’s Ally

The alternative energy industry is seemingly all smiles now. After all, they are looking at US President-elect Barack Obama as an ally of the industry with all of what is listed in the energy plans that this person has made.
According to the plans that Obama has listed, he is going to take the road towards putting in more of the nation’s budget into research. That way, there would be more knowledge on energy. He is also looking at having electric utilities moving towards renewable power.
Lyndon Rive is the president of SolarCity, a company that is into solar power and solar …read more

Pasig City Gets Solar Streetlights

Though we have heard of solar-powered streetlights already, we still have not heard of solar streetlights in the Philippines. This is the first time in fact that I have heard of such being installed in the country. In a report, Raquel Naciongayo, the officer of Pasig City’s Environment and Natural Resources department, had mentioned that they are installing such so as to help lessen expenses on energy. At present, they had already installed 27 streetlights and these can be found in the Central Business District and in parts of Barangay Kapitolyo.
Naciongayo had mentioned, “During the day, the streetlights would charge up …read more

Solar Panels In The Student Union

Teach them and they will learn. Show them and they will understand.
That is the way things are going for most institutions. And in schools, they are already using solar power to be able to show to the students just how friendly this kind of technology is.
One of the newest schools to use solar power is the University of Nevada. They had already put in solar panels and these would be lighting up the Joe Crowley Student Union. Officials say that the solar project would be able to create 28 kW for power. In a year, that would be around $5000 …read more

SunEdison To Help Teach On Solar Power

No they are not hiring teachers to help teach children about solar power. Instead, their way of educating these students is through a curriculum that they had created themselves. They are calling it “Learning About Solar Power” and it seems like a real good guide to help teachers teach children about solar power and everything related to it.Dr. Laura Martin is the senior director for Arizona Science Center’s science interpretation on the curriculum from SunEdison, she shared, “A program like this, from the real-world,brings solar energy to life for students and also really allows them to develop an understanding of …read more

What is an Ultracapacitor?

There has been many talks and articles about ultracapacitors and its potential use for renewable energy.   Let me first start by answering the question  What is an Ultracapacitor?
An Ultracapacitor, sometimes called electric double-layer capacitors or supercapacitors are just just like any other capacitor but have a very high energy density.  It can store huge amounts of energy for its size.   If you are familiar with the usual electrolytic capacitor,  think about a device than can store a thousand times more energy.   Most electrolytic capacitors have a value in micro farads, but a typical ultracapacitor has a value …read more

Power From The Water

We have been talking much about solar. Let us now try to shift from that and go with this story from Pennsylvania. See, in Vandergrift, that is where you would find the river Kiskiminetas. And from this river, officials of the area are looking at using this as a good source of electricity. How will they go about with that?
Reserachers have devised a new system that encompasses a grid of polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) placed on the bottom of the river, the undulating movement of which will generate electricity. The electrical current generated would pass to substations along the river bank, …read more
