Compact refrigerators not best green choice

According to Consumer Reports, the trend towards using compact refrigerators to save energy might not really be the best choice. While tall compacts get a better score than short ones, neither are anywhere near as efficient as full sized models for the storage space they provide. Even if you don’t need the space of a full sized model, compacts use almost as much electricity to run!
Interesting, huh? I wouldn’t have guessed that would be the case. I guess we need to think hard before we chose our next fridge! Here’s a link to CR’s Energy Saving Guides.

Are We Teaching Kids Global Warming Lies

In the current frenzy to be cool “going green” in homes, schools and communities, are we teaching youngsters (and adults) global warming lies? Schools are “green” this year and youngsters report in class discussions how their parents are practicing or not practicing energy and earth saving tactics. (Big Brother?)
Do we have the correct data or simply what politicians and those making money from the big industry of environmental and global warming wants us to know? Are Green Homes so different?

Here’s a great video from quantumshift.tv that highlights a new home that uses 90% less energy and 50% less water. I like the ideas they’ve used to achieve the savings – like heat recapture and rainwater harvesting – and that they emphasize how the house really isn’t so different from traditional homes. With just a few tweaks of a couple of systems and strategies this house makes a considerably lower impact on the environment….
