Last night I finally got a chance to watch Freedom Writers. I’ve been blogging about these students and Erin Gruwell since November 2005. I’ve also wanted to see the film since October last year. The book they created The Freedom Writers Diary inspired the film. While I’m sure there are moments where the movie might romanticise the truth, it’s still an effective movie.
I especially enjoyed the voices of the students reading what they wrote in their diaries. For me that was the highlight. I’ve yet to read the book, so those glimpses made watching the entire film worthwhile. …read more

I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve mentioned the Freedom Writers in this blog. Since November 2005 I’ve been following their story, about the book, Freedom Writers; the movie; and their Freedom Writers Foundation.

There’s been a lot of noise about the The Freedom Writers Diary book in the press recently. Since it’s been made into a film starring Hilary Swank there’s been even more. Watch an interview with the teacher, Erin Gruwell, who started it all here.
