Many craftspeople utilize Etsy.com for promoting and selling the items they design and produce. Some even expand beyond Etsy and start up home businesses and small craft businesses outside the home, like Keara Sexton with OAK, on Newbury Street in Boston.
To learn more about Keara’s business and Etsy.com, read Shawn Cyr’s article, Those arts and crafts projects could add up to dollars online. This might spark your creativity and give you ideas for expanding your crafting interests and even make some money with them.
There also are workshops and tutorials at Etsy.com.
What have been your experiences with Etsy.com? I’d enjoy hearing about your craft business …read more

Earlier today someone asked me what I’d be getting the husband for Father’s Day and to be honest I haven’t got a clue. My husband isn’t your typical dad, he doesn’t wear ties or any of that other “Father’s Day Gifts” type of dad. Instead he likes BBQ, but no aprons, he likes anime but not something I can just go and grab off a shelf as we have over 200 different DVDs that I have no clue if he’s seen. I love to go sight-seeing through the Etsy shops and today, in the special wedding section, I found customized Wedding Cake Toppers for only $250. A $100 deposit is all it takes to begin work on a handmade cake topper that bears a striking resemblance to bride and groom.
Toppers are sculpted from dollmaking clay which is layered over a stronger armature for durability. They measure about 5-6 inches in height. You can personalize your topper even further by adding touches like a likeness of your pet. How cool is this? I cannot imagine a cooler, more unique keepsake for the bride …read more

I’ve featured interesting things from Etsy.com, but listen to the description for a cuff that’s on sale here. Its best if you take a look at the pictures on their site as well!
Here’s the product description:
These laminated cuffs are made from various vintage ephemera and are all one of a kind.
This cuff was made from an old cookbook image (I love gross food pictures) which was laminated and cemented and sewn to a soft tan leather underside. Beige edge stitching and two segma snaps.
I’m amazed at what people come up with on this site!
