Transferring your pattern for embroidery

Art Attack Thursday!

Lots of times in mixed media projects, we’d like to add a bit of hand-stitched elegance! Sometimes we can get away with just winging it, but other times the pattern is a bit more crucial. Here’s a great little tutorial from Melissa at Elemental Stitches on how to transfer your pattern to fabric. I’m going to guess that it would also work really well to transfer to paper as well, whether you plan to stitch or do something else with your design. Not sure, though, as I haven’t tried it yet…so many products, so little time

Recycle your blankie into a rug!

Can you think of anything cozier than turning soft, cuddly blankets into rugs? What a treat for your feet! Dutch design duo Tejo Remy and Rene VeenHuizen came up with this brilliant idea.

Replace your straps

Isn’t this a great idea? Thanks to Lenore of Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories, we’ll all be out cutting the seatbelts out of unlocked cars. Just kidding! You can get them from junkyards legally…

Even better, Lenore shows us how to make the swap. Sweet!

Bugs & Fishes

I love both the stuff and the attitude. Bugs & Fishes is currently planning on blogging every day about the clever projects she makes…felt animals, flowers, mobiles, you name it.
She also sells her wares through an Etsy shop, and one offering that caught my eye was this mobile:

Lazy Girl Designs!

Art Attack Thursday!
Don’t you just love the name of this blog? Joan Hawley is the Lazy Girl, and she has generously shared many free lazy tutorials. Since I happen to be a person who is always in seach of the perfect bag, her quick and easy style really appeals to me. I especially like this one yard, one hour tote bag pattern! I didn’t get around to making them for holiday gifts, but I think they are just the thing for me to use up some of my Guatemalan fabrics! What do you think?

Continuous quilt binding

Heather Bailey has provided a really neat one-page tutorial on how to bind a quilt with that professional mitered corner look. There are several ways that like to bind my fabric projects, but the mitered style is by far the most polished. Heather’s directions are clear and well-illustrated! Thanks so much, Heather!
You can visit Heather’s blog and have a cuppa with her too. She has some beautiful photos there

Junque Figures: um, junk, but interesting junk!
How do you describe your work, Colette?
Mixed media. Privately I call it eclectic, because I like variety. I love to paint on large canvasses, and I also like smaller work: collage is my bliss, assemblage is fulfilling! I get bored doing the same thing, although I believe I’ve developed my own style no matter what form the art takes.
What is your creative process like?
Now that’s the $64-million question. I’ve lost count of the times …read more
