I was browsing through the Spring & Summer 2010 collections from the runway at Milan’s Fashion Week when I came across this photo.
The embroidery on the shirts was what caught my eye, but then I took a closer look at the necklace. At first I though the model was wearing a necklace made from beads or shells:
And then I realized that those beads are actually covered with fabric!

I love making fabric jewelry. It’s a great stash-buster, and you’re pretty much guaranteed to end up with a piece of jewelry that no one else will have.

How-To: Embroidered Flower Brooch

I wrote this tutorial for my bridal craft blog (which I have been sadly ignoring lately) but I wanted to share it with all of you here as well!
I used a heavy fabric mesh, buttons, yarn and thread to create a unique brooch that stays nice and firm as you wear it – no fabric stiffener needed here.

Fabric jewelry is a great stash-buster! It’s a fun way to use up those little scraps of fabric that seem to mysteriously multiply in sewing rooms. And fabric jewelry is lightweight, easy to wear and trendy.
