Quilting & Patchwork Blogger Guest at Lifestyles Channel Promo Day

Remember, I mentioned in an earlier post about interviewing, that you never know when you may be interviewed.  Gayla McCord, the Channel Editor here at the Lifestyles Channel interviewed me for At Home for the Holidays with b5media Lifestyles Channel.
There you can learn more about me and my enjoyment of quilting and blogging.  You’ll even view a photo of one of my daughter’s fabric postcards.
However, in addition, there’s even more information about the  blogs and bloggers at the Lifestyles Channel on Promo Day. (Gayla also interviewed Heather of Chocolate Bytes and The Food Bowl).
Don’t miss this great round-up of current happenings at the Lifestyles …read more

Fabric Postcards from the 30s & 20’s … Quilters’ Delight!

Swapping fabric post cards has become a fascinating hobby for fabric artists and quilters.  Many different themes abound, with each group selecting something that strikes their fancy or has special meaning.
I discovered “Postcards from the 1930’s” at Kate’s Quilting (and other fiber arts) Blog.  This appears to be an ongoing swap and Kate has posted a few of these cards, along with others she sends and receives.
Since fabric postcards fascinate me…I see many my daughter makes and receives.  So I’m frequently browsing other web sites and blogs for them.
Two of Kate’s postcard posts:

Postcard Posse of Quilters Remembers Our Troops on July 4

Penny’s Postcard Posse remembers the troops in Iraq again this year on July 4 by sending fabric postcards.  Started last year by quilter Penny Halgren, this project has grown considerably as quilters around the country contribute postcards they’ve made to thank the troops and lift their spirits.
The project has expanded beyond July 4th.  Now it includes Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas/Holidays, Valentine’s Day and Easter/Spring.  School children as well as adults take part.
Incidentally, Penny was honored by the State of California for her work with Penny’s Postcard Posse.
You can join the project, learn the details and see pictures of the cards by checking …read more

Quilters Make Fabric Postcards With Triangle Designs

Quilters Make Fabric Postcards With Triangle Designs

Fabric postcards with a “triangle” theme provide  intriguing pieces of art in one of my daughter’s quilting groups.  This exchange involved triangles; the previous one had a theme of circles.
Beth has posted two of her cards at Meandering Threads.  I’ve included one here.

She fused the blue background strips to the card backing, then secured them in place by stitching.  The three orange/gold triangles are appliqued onto the card.  The small gold triangles Beth made by stamping.  You can see that she combined several techniques on this triangle card.

Converting Paper Quilts into Mixed Media Ones

Katelyn at Stamping Mad, with her post, Paper Quilts, called my attention to Chrysti’s delightful collection of these items, on her Art by Chrysti blog .  Using leftover paper scraps, Chrysti created lovely postcard art.  Katelyn mentioned she is going to try some, and I hope she posts her results on her blog.
This has me wondering about adding fabric scraps, rick-rack, lace, etc. to the paper scraps for a mixed media piece of art.  Just as Katelyn wants to try the paper quilt/post cards, I should try some of the mixed media variation.
Another term for paper quilts and mixed media art is …read more

Quilters Swap Fabric Postcards with Circle Designs

Quilters Swap Fabric Postcards with Circle Designs

Fabric postcards with circle designs have been coming and going at our home.  One of my daughter’s postcard exchange groups has a theme of “Circles” for their latest swap.  The postcard design needed to have at least one circle in it.
One arrived today from England with circle stitching and sparkly circles sewed on it, too.  (And it came through the mail perfectly intact without an envelope or plastic covering.)  It’s interesting the great variety of postcards that can be designed with a simple circle theme.
Here is one of Beth’s:

Quilted Fabric Postcards for the Troops

Penny’s Postcard Posse is rounding up more quilted fabric postcards for the troops and plans to send a great many of them for July 4.  Deadline for collecting the post cards is June 8,  Check this website for instructions.
The idea of sending postcards to the troops in Iraq, now known as Penny’s Postcard Posse,  began last year for July 4.  Now there are a number of times throughout the year when the Possee rounds up colorful fabric postcards from contributors to let the

troops know they and what they are doing are appreciated.
There are directions online, and you can find books to …read more

“Think Spring” in Your Quilting

“Think Spring” in Your Quilting

As we watch yet another foot of snow accumulate around our house in April in New Hampshire, my daughter and I wonder where spring is and all those green leaves and flowers that should be budding.  (We’ve had two storms, a foot of snow each, in less than a week in a season when we should be looking forward to warmer weather.)
So we look to our quilting fabric art and “Think Spring!”
Beth posted a photo of the storm on her Meandering Threads blog and then some fabric postcards with spring scenes or themes.  These actually are some she made for …read more

The Fascination of Small Quilting Projects

Chloe at Tangled Thread talks about small projects you can carry in your purse to keep you busy when you’re away from home.  What about some small quilting/fabric art projects that you can tote along that don’t take up much space.          These can include glass cases, potholders, artist trading cards (ATCs), fabric postcards, coin/change purse, needle book or any number of small projects.  They can be as simple or as complex as you with.  The main objective is having something that doesn’t take up much space to carry or work on…and generally can be done by hand.
