Luscious Green Houses

Before I was blogging here at Blisstree Green I was blogging at b5media’s Offbeat Homes (among other green-minded structure sites) so I have this long term love of green architecture going on.  From time to time I was thinking I’d share some killer green houses here. One, because I LOVE green architecture, and two, it’s good to see what’s happening in the green building realm.
There’s a notion, among folks I’ve met, that all green dwellings are weird, kooky, or minimal (read boring) but that’s not true at all. I actually do like the unique green dwellings, but many green homes …read more

I Heart Small & Adorable Offbeat Architecture

Happy Valentine’s Day Offbeat people. Now, there aren’t too many heart-minded structures around, so we’re going to look at something sort of different today. The cutest thing I could think of for Valentine’s Day here at Offbeat – adorable little offbeat dollhouses…

The Citadel by Lolly’s Dollhouse via Modern Dollhouses and Miniatures – lovely and modern. I can’t believe how realistic this looks.

The Knitted Gingerbread House

Honestly, I can’t believe I’ve never seen this house before. Sometimes I feel like I’m living in a cave. In any case, my world is now a little better for having seen it, as I’m sure you’ll soon agree (that is, unless you’ve already seen it).
The amazing Gingerbread House:

This entire house is knitted (apart from the wooden door and windows). All the interior furniture, food, and home accessories are also knitted. There’s even a knitted garden full of flowers and a knit 12 ft tree surrounding the house. The house was created and went on tour in …read more

Short on cash? Buy your dream castle for $250k or less

International Listings sent me this post; Want to Live in a Castle? 10 Great Options for $250k or Less. Not that I’m looking to purchase. Even less than $250k is out of my current range; still, some of you might be in the holiday shopping mood. Good luck finding wrap big enough for this gift.
Let’s say I was looking. I’d most likely go with A Masseria in Italy (I’ve got serious Italy crush). Cost: $1.58414 USD (gasp).

Which castle would you purchase?

Guess the spooky structure

Now, what do you suppose this is? Hints: It’s a commercial structure, and a spooky lady might live there.

Do you know?

Sweet Little Castle

Is this maybe one of the cutest little castles ever? I think so. Don’t think I’d live there. If I was ten years old maybe, but not now. Still, it’s pretty darn adorable. Mushroom Castle was built by David Lee in East Boothbay, Maine.
You can see many more castles at Castles of the United States.

The Adorable Berea, Ohio Bridge House

I don’t usually say, “Adorable” here that often, but this house is so darn cute. Not a water fan; but I could see living somewhere like this. It’s not only unique and cute, but peaceful looking.

Is there a catch? Yeah. I can’t find any info on this house, other then it’s in Berea, Ohio. I’ve been to Ohio, but it was oh so long ago, and I’m pretty sure I was never in Berea. So, all you Offbeat readers from Berea are going to have to come out of the woodwork and tell me about this cute little house.

Currently Hopelessly In Love With…. Electro^Plankton

Ok, hopelessly may be pushing it. It’s not like I’m sending them stalker letters or visiting them first thing of the day. That said, I do really, super, very much adore this blog. It’s not an architect blog, more a smattering of stuff – mostly wicked cool stuff.
I don’t know why, but lately I’ve been stretching out from my usual feast of architect and green blogs, and while I was doing so, one blog I found happened to be Electro^Plankton. It was a good find though, because look at this stellar house they have posted:

It’s not so much a house …read more

Fairy Tale Molded Roof

Fairy Tale Molded Roof

I’m not so sure that the technically name for this is “molded” – I mean it’s not made of Jello. Plus roofing is not an area I know tons about. Still, supposedly, specialty roofers had to boil these shingles in large pots of water and then bend them to fit this roof restoration. That sounds time consuming – but really cool. Can you imagine?
I love how this roof turned out. You can see a picture of this home, before the roof was re-done, at a great home blog, Unusual Life. UL by the way, has the most amazing picture of …read more

Classic Offbeat: Hansel & Gretyl Cottage

Today’s offbeat classic is a bit of a fairytale – I’m not feeling well and a good fairytale is always cheerful. (ok, traditional fairytales were not cheerful, actually kind of bloody and gruesome, but hey, they’ve candy coated the new ones.) A fairytale home though, now, that’s always a good time.
This classic is the Hansel & Gretyl Cottage, and it’s quite close to where I live.
