European Union Wants to Ban Cloned Livestock as Food

The European Union is planning on proposing a temporary ban on cloning livestock and selling food produced from cloned farm animals. Even though the European Food Safety Authority said that there was no evidence suggesting that meat or milk from a cloned animal was any different from food from a normal animal, the EU Science Adviser said that there are serious concerns for the welfare of the animals involved. Is the World Ending? Spherical Egg Discovered

A chef in Cornwall, England, discovered this perfectly spherical egg while cooking breakfast at the inn he works at. He had never seen anything like it, and it seems like no one has. It’s especially strange when you think about the biology egg-laying. Bird eggs get their oval shapes from being squeezed through the bird’s oviduct — so did this egg not pass through the oviduct? Or maybe since the eggs no longer have to balance on a nest (thank you, factory farming), eggs are evolving into perfectly round shapes. What do you think? More »
