The Books of a Lifetime

When I was young my favorite book was this beautiful story book about Cinderella. I have no idea who gave it to me or where it came from but I kept it in pristine condition. In fact, it is in such good condition that it still looks new today.
Do you have a book like that? I know that AJ does. He has several; The Polar Express, Where the Wild Things Are, and of course, The Little Engine that Could. What is interesting is that those three books tell everything about him.

Marcie’s Favorite Books, 2008

As a reading teacher my favorite books for kids are quite varied. They range from educational to entertaining. I love young adult angst books and I adore kiss and hug board books. And I think each has it’s place in children’s literature.
Here are my favorites right now. Some will always remain my favorites (and I will always think they belong in a child’s library) but some I think are just plain trendy.
Corduroy 40th Anniversary Edition Corduroy is celebrating his 40th birthday this year. It’s a perfect time to bring him back.
The Little Engine That Could One of my son’s favorites.

Nancy Drew books of any kind.  I devoured these.
Heidi
Little Women.  I recall doing a book report on this book in 8th grade when I had to memorize a dialogue between Jo and Meg.
Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm
Pollyanna
Anne of Green Gables.  This was one of my …read more

Create Your Own Summer Reading Program

OneBookTwoBook.com    Perhaps your library is a small one and they don’t have the facilities for a summer reading program as I described in a previous post. Or you live too far from the library for it to be convenient to attend.
Why not develop a summer reading program of your own with your children?
*Tie in with the local library. With their help, do some of their activities at home or ones that pick up their theme.
*Choose a favorite book and base family activities around it.
*Choose a topic and read books that tie in with it.
*Each child reads books of their choosing and …read more

What would you like to see and read here at One Book Two Book?
We’d like to get an idea of our audience and what you and your children like to read.  Are you also a children’s author or aspiring one?
The stories I read as a child and read to my daughter differ from many of those today, yet some still have remained favorites over the years.  The stories and books my grandchildren enjoy encompass a different type of fantasy from the “fairy tales” of my childhood.  As a reader and writer, it’s interesting to see the changes, yet similarities …read more
