Instant Goose Bumps

Remember the Boston Tea Party?

The tag line was No Taxation without Representation!

During women’s suffrage No Taxation without Representation! was a tagline also used to get women the vote.

Of course, men’s response back then was “you don’t work, you don’t pay taxes.”

Except that now 72% of us do work and all of us pay taxes.

But, America still ranks 71st in the world for female respresentation in our own government. That combines all levels from federal to local government. That’s pathetic.

Girls, Ladies, Women, Sisters – that’s taxation without representation. That’s unacceptable.

Like our issue with the Brits, we still like lots of things about them and we forgive them for hoarding political power over us – Americans still fought for our right to participate in our own government. As we should’ve.

See the parallel?

Women still like men, we still want to be friends and marry you and make babies with you and all that. We forgive you for trying to hoard all the power. But, we need to fight for our right to equally participate in our own government. We should.

See, we make up 51% of the population and control much of the gross national spending and 72% of us pay employment taxes and by virtue of all that, its time we represented half the government. We’re entitled.

But, Hillary lost and there are no women to vote for in my house or senate district, you might say.

I know, right?

But, then it occured to me.

I want women to be represented by women in Congress and in the House of Representatives and in the Judiciary and in my local government.

While I can’t vote in say, North Carolina where Kay Hagan is running for a Senate seat, I CAN help her win.

* You can make phone calls to potential voters and campaign for the female candidates who will represent your interests.

* You can forward information about Emily’s List to educate all your friends.

As an underrepresented woman I have a stake in whether Dina Titus wins her race for the House seat in Nevada.

I equally care whether Suzanne Kosmas, running in Florida for a House seat, promises to vote in my interests.

I CARE deeply whether Jeanne Shaheen wins her Senate seat in New Hampshire or not. And you should too

I want representation in my government. I want my daughter to see herself being represented in her government.
