Well, the holiday season (Christmas and New Year) is almost here. This is the time of year that most of us have a big excuse to eat and eat and eat. It’s a time for family get-togethers and festivities that will not be complete without food and lots of tempting delightful foods.
Here are a few top reasons why you shouldn’t eat too much or pick the food you’ll eat this holiday season.

Obesity, metabolism and diabetes are all linked to cancer – as presented by researchers at the American Association for Cancer Research’s Sixth Annual International Conference on Frontiers in Cancer Prevention Research, new findings that link weight gain and diabetes to a variety of cancers affecting both men and women, including breast, prostate and colorectal cancer.

Get easy on red and processed meats, as eating more of such is linked to more risk of bowel and lung cancer – as reported byby Amanda Cross and colleagues at the US National Cancer Institute and published in the latest issue of PLoS Medicine. There’s no harm opting for chicken and fish dishes on the holiday season. You can have hams as well, but not too much and remember to balance it with more of #3. OR have meat-less pasta for example?

Have more fruits and veggies on the table on Christmas and New Year’s dinner: fresh fruit and green salad. Remember to use light dressings on your salad (i.e. vinigrette) and top your assorted fruit mix with low-fat cream instead.

I guess it is okay to have sweets but be low on sugar. If you are on a diet, you would not like to ruin it just because of the holiday season right? Think of healthy substitutes.

Please don’t “pig out” on one sitting as is most often the case when you see various food on the table. Remember, it is okay I suppose for what you had on Christmas dinner to last ’til the breaskfast before New Year’s eve. It’s okay to keep left-overs in your fridge than pig out one night and regret it the next day.

That’s all for now, most are what I would like to personally change this Christmas holiday. What about you, are leaning more to healthy eating this holiday season? Do tell.
