More Round Robin Quilting Pages

If you’ve been following the Fiber Explorers’ Round Robin pages (they’re making books for this session), my daughter Beth has posted more at her Meandering Threads blog, under a post, More Round Robin Pages.
It’s always fun to see what Beth is making and the pages others in the group create for her “Nature” book.  Here’s one another group member made for Beth’s book.  Beth thinks the leaves were made with Shiva paint sticks.
This is the last round for the robin, so next meeting they’ll have all the pages for each book completed.  Then the fiber artists will figure out how to …read more

A Fairy for a Quilting Project

As I watched my daughter make a fairy for the Round Robin quilt book project her Fiber Explorers group is undertaking, I was amazed.  The theme for the book she had to work on this session was Art Paper Dolls.
I think this is lovely, and even the photo shows the three-dimensional effect.

Now maybe I’m prejudiced because Beth is my daughter!  However, I’m going to suggest she sometime make a whole book of these little fairies in different costumes and and poses.  Perhaps I should write a children’s story and let Beth make illustrations in fabric.

More Round Robin Quilting

Here’s the latest creation Beth made for the Round Robin her fiber arts group (Fiber Explorers) are doing.  She made it as a page for Carmen’s book with the them of “In the Woods.” Since we have trillium among the wild flowers growing the three acres of woodland around our home, it seemed appropriate to make these flowers for Carmen’s book.  You’ll find more about their Round Robin books on Beth’s Meandering Threads blog and perhaps gain inspiration and ideas for a book of your own.   Each of the fiber artists developed a theme for their book.  Then each of …read more

Round Robin Quilt Saga Continued

Beth’s fiber arts group has completed another segment in their Round Robin quilts.  She posted some photos, at her Meandering Threads blog, of work they’ve accomplished so far.
Each quilter is contributing a page to one another’s books.  They also selected themes for their books which the contributors are carrying out.
It’s very interesting to see the various techniques and ideas they are coming up with.

Here is Beth’s contribution to one of the books with the theme of “Sky.”  It’s difficult to see clearly here, but Beth placed cheese cloth over the blue ocean to give it texture.  The fabric is some …read more

Attending My Daughter’s Quilt/Fiber Arts Exhibit

What fun to attend a Grand Opening and Reception for a Quilt/Fiber Arts Exhibit, especially when your daughter is one of the six fiber artists!  This was a culmination of Beth’s venturing into various types of quilting and experimenting with many fabrics and fibers.
Most of the projects at this exhibit, Texture-Textiles-Techniques, at the Artistic Roots Art Center in Campton, NH,  were wall hangings and even a fiber mobile.  Each artist in this group, who call themselves The Fiber Explorers, has her individual style and subject matter.  All drew raves from the attendees.
Of course, Mom was very pleased to see her daughter’s work on display and find …read more

Organizing a Fiber Art & Quilting Exhibit

Fiber art and quilting exhibits need not be large events coordinated by regional, statewide, or national organizations.  Quilting groups of any size can display their work and share their art with friends and neighbors in their locality.
My daughter’s group, Fiber Explorers, consisting of six friends who work in diverse styles, will exhibit their work throughout October at a gallery in Campton, New Hampshire.  They will hold a reception on opening evening, Oct. 3.  (Of course, I’m excited about this event as I see my daughter developing her own style in the quilting and fiber art world.)
