National Fibromyalgia Awareness Day

I’ve written quite a bit on fibromyalgia and I had featured someone with it in a Company’s Calling piece (Company’s calling – a journey with fibromyalgia ) when I wrote Help My Hurt for this network. I never knew there was a National Fibromyalgia Awareness Day – and I bet many of you didn’t either.

Fibromyalgia is one of those hidden diseases that is still very much a disease that’s fighting to be recognized (Fibromyalgia debate continues ), which adds to the difficulties faced by those who live with it. They know it’s real – they have to live …read more

Yikes – Pfizer’s ad for fibro awareness

I haven’t seen this but I don’t watch a lot of TV, so that’s not surprising. According to the Pharma Marketing Blog, Pfizer has come up with a new way to try to sell more Lyrica. An ad comparing fibromyalgia with being battered.
I really don’t know what to think about this. Read the blog entry, Battered Woman Imagery in Pfizer’s New Fibromyalgia Ad, and tell us what you think? Is this a good approach? Or just another way to try and sell the Lyrica that is targeted for the fibro market?

This week, we welcome Bonnie Hensley, a 50-year-old registered nurse in the Seattle area joins us. She tells me that she works 56 hours in a 2-week period (3 days one week, 4 the next) in a community hospital operating room.
She’s been an OR nurse (”all I’ve ever done as a nurse,” she says) since 1989.

Can you tell me about when you first started experiencing the pain and what kind of pain it was?
It was about two years ago or so, don’t remember exactly when. I was tired and achy all the time, no matter …read more

9 Fibromyalgia myths

9 Fibromyalgia myths

All illnesses have some myths associated with them, some more than others. Diseases like fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome are two that have many myths.
The MayoClinic.com has addressed this and published Fibromyalgia myths: The truth about 9 common myths.
Here’s one: “Myth: You were diagnosed with fibromyalgia because your doctor couldn’t find anything wrong with you.”
If you have fibromyalgia, there’s a good chance you’re heard most, if not all, of these. If you don’t have fibro, have a look to see what you did know and what you can learn about the disorder.
