Do you need to make a last minute for Valentine’s Day?
Why not check out some of the free vintage Valentine’s Day printables that are available online?
Print them onto inkjet fabric (cotton, silk or organza will all work). Cut them out and sew a backing fabric onto the front. Stuff it with lavender to make a sachet, or just plain old poly-fil stuffing to make a softie.
Add a piece of ribbon as a hanger and you’re good to go!
Of course, you could always personalize it by writing on the back with a permanent marker…

While Tangled Thread isn’t a quilting blog (go to Quilting & Patchwork for that one!) making art quilts is one of my great passions. I seem to create at least one art quilt as a Christmas gift for someone in my family every year.
Last year it was my brother & sister-in-law’s turn – this year it was my parents:

While Tangled Thread isn’t a quilting blog (go to Quilting & Patchwork for that one!) making art quilts is one of my great passions. I seem to create at least one art quilt as a Christmas gift for someone in my family every year.

Last year it was my brother & sister-in-law’s turn – this year it was my parents:

My brother took the photos of my parent’s pets and I Photoshopped them. The photots were then printed directly onto specially treated silk sheets (the silk sheets are fused to paper and are treated so that you can run them through your printer). I appliqued the photos onto fabric, stitched them onto the background (which was created by appliquing more strips of fabric onto a “sandwich” of fabric and quilt batting). I then mounted it onto a stretcher frame and covered the back with more fabric.

I also enjoy giving home-made candy at Christmas. I bought some yummy black organza that had been printed with silver snowflakes – which I thought would make a great way to wrap the candy:

image: C Findlay-Harder

I cut rectangles of the fabric, wrapped the cellophane-bagged candy in it and then topped it all off with a matching silver ribbon. The organza tended to fray a little so I trimmed off the ends with my pinking sheers.

Voila! Quick, easy and festive wrapping – just the way I like it

I made three “Origami” needlework bags using this fantastic pattern from Quilting Arts TV. I sewed the bags, wove the handles and my DH made little metal tags to go on the front and back flaps:

It’s just not Christmas without making at least one men’s dress shirt:

I also made a couple of shirts using the “Soft N’ Stretchy” transfer paper – which were awfully popular!

My husband requested a pair of suspenders, so my mom, Noreen and I collaborated to make him this pair:

Noreen wove the fabric strips and I sewed them together.

He had requested a pair of trucker suspenders, which definitely took some detective work to get together… I still need to shorten up the back straps though:

I’ve got a couple of more projects to share – but that’s for another day and another post!

I just wanted to post a quick clarification of yesterday’s post for creating a bird Christmas ornament with sequins.
I printed the pattern out so that the body of the bird is approximately four and a half inches long:

If you want to adjust the size of the pattern, use the “print screen” button on your keyboard. Open up your photo editing software (The Gimp is totally free and available online) and open up a new project or page. Hit “Ctrl” “V” at the same time – that should paste the pattern into the document. You can then adjust the size from [...]
Post from: Blisstree

I just wanted to post a quick clarification of yesterday’s post for creating a bird Christmas ornament with sequins.

I printed the pattern out so that the body of the bird is approximately four and a half inches long:

If you want to adjust the size of the pattern, use the “print screen” button on your keyboard. Open up your photo editing software (The Gimp is totally free and available online) and open up a new project or page. Hit “Ctrl” “V” at the same time – that should paste the pattern into the document. You can then adjust the size from there.

Either that or take it to a copy shop and let them increase the size as needed.

I used a plain, polyester fiber-fill to stuff the ornament. I didn’t stuff it too firmly, because I didn’t want to stuffing to poke out through the blanket stitching.

Any more questions? Let me know!
