Twenty nine percent, or almost a third of 12,000 survey respondents, say they usually “go all the way, baby” on a first date, according to a recent poll conducted by popular online dating service AdultFriendFinder.

The figure is even higher for women (42 percent of the 1,825 women who responded) than for men (25 percent of the 8,441 men who responded). Of the 1,658 responses from couples, 34 percent go “all the way.” About 17 percent of all participants in the survey say their first dates usually resulted in just talking or “friendly touching,” while 20 percent did some kissing, 21 percent advanced to “deep kissing and erotic touching” and 13 percent engaged in “foreplay or heavy foreplay.”

Given the type of clients that Adult Friend Finder has, I can believe the results of the survey.  However, if the same survey were conducted in the general population, I have to wonder if the results would be drastically different?

How Far Will You Go on a First Date?

Let me share a few of the things that I practice in the years that I’ve been in the dating scene.

• When it comes to Blind Dates, I’m pretty open-minded about it. It’s not a major no-no in my book but with certain conditions like he should be a friend of a friend and not merely an acquaintance. And I apply other “practices” that I’ll be enumerating.
• It’s mandatory that I talk to the guy a couple of times prior the date.
• I don’t disclose my address or home phone number until at least the third date. He’ll just have to settle for my mobile number.
• For initial dates, I prefer not to be picked up. I’ll bring my own car, thank you very much!
• It’s going to be dutch. But if he insists that he pays for everything then I’ll let him just to be polite.
• When it comes to the “kiss” — err. I reckon my stand will be it will depend on the chemistry. But usually I’m really picky. It’s a big deal for me. I’m even very sensitive about being touched! Ha.
• If we’re to talk about the callbacks like the topic, which Gayla brought up, I’m not really a snob but I believe that men are the initiators so I often wait for him to get in touch with me again even when I did have a great time on the date. Don’t get me wrong. I’m pretty accommodating once he does call.

We’ve all got them – regardless of whether they are petty or not.  There are just some things that we can’t live with – no matter how hard a person tries to overcome them or tries to put their best foot forward.

What’s your deal breaker?

According to a speed-dating experiment at Edinburgh International Science Festival, many women take about half a minute to make up their minds about a potential partner.

Following tests involving 500 `dates’. The findings revealed that women were twice as likely to make up their minds about the opposite sex than men.

According to the professor that was behind this study, men are often characterized as being shallow and tend to judge women too quickly. However, this particular study indicates that this particular common belief may be way off base – and that in reality; women are shallower and judge more quickly.

At least men were on average a little more creative with the common question that received the greatest response – that being “if you were on Stars in Your Eyes, who would you be and why?” (apparently this is a noted British television show that we in the U.S. are unaware of) While the most often asked question by women was “what’s your favorite pizza topping?”

Oh, I’m almost ashamed to be a woman at this point! Shallow and lacking in creativity? PuLease!

When it comes to being shallow, I’d say I was probably one of the guiltiest gals going and I did often sum up a man in a few seconds, but most times it was because of one of the key factors that I realized early on in the dating game that was important to me.

Three things that were always very important to me when meeting a new guy were:

- Nice and clean teeth

- Clean shoes

- the inside of his car would have to be clean

If one of those three things failed the test, it was a done deal!

Quirky?  You bet! 

Those are typically the least of a man’s worries. If he thinks enough to make sure his car and shoes are clean – that means other parts of his life were well organized and just as clean.

The teeth go without saying. I just couldn’t bring myself to kiss a man with icky teeth.

So, I pose this question to the readers here on Dating Dames. What are some of the quirky little things you feel you may indicate you are shallow. Things that dig into your very being and that regardless of how hard you try, you just can’t waiver?

Are women more shallow than men?

I am suggesting that you keep in mind the following:

• Let somebody know who you’re going with and where,
• Make the meeting place really public,
• It’s a good idea to go as a group especially if you’re having doubts about the guy’s credibility. It’s not a crime to take pre-cautionary measures!
• Never accept an offer for a ride home or even to get into that guy’s car. It’s wise to be wary of such things especially in disclosing where you live [you wouldn't want to end up with a stalker, right?], and
• Always make the initial meeting a casual one like a lunch, dinner or coffee date. This also applies for all first dates. The main reason for the date is to get to know him and you wouldn’t be able to do that inside the cinema now, would you?

I may have made mistakes in some of my dates but I’ve taken some wisdom from the experience. It wasn’t all bad anyway because I have found and created new friendships with some of them, which I still enjoy upto now.

In dating, I reckon you just have to learn how to follow your gut. Sometimes, it may just surprise you.

Going on a Blind Date?

Here’s a thought!

Capture that moment in time! It could turn out to be one of the most romantic gifts you could give your partner on an anniversary, Valentines Day or even as a special wedding day gift.

Following the first date, take up your pen and paper; write down everything you are possibly feeling. Make note of places, scents, music, whatever is included in that first date. You might even include ticket stubs, napkins, any little trinket you have from that date.

Later, pop that letter in the mail and send it to yourself. If a time comes for you to offer up the gift, it will prove to him/her that you thought enough after that first date to capture everything about that date.

It’s an absolute no fail gift idea – and one that will be treasured for years to come.
