I like to change my work-out routines to keep it fun. I like varieties in order not get bored with my physical activities. If I’m not dancing, doing Tae-Bo, Pilates, or doing my hardcore routine of weights, squats, abs, etc, I usually tune in to Fit TV. I love to work-out with Sharon Mann and sometimes with Gilad. Once in a while, depends on what time I get a chance to work-out in the day, I catch the Yoga show which I love coz it helps me with flexibility and it relaxes my body just like Pilates does. A couple of times I’ve caught the Belly Dancing show. I’ve always wanted to learn it but just couldn’t convince myself to buy the DVD’s. Don’t ask me why..LOL. So if I like these shows, what’s my beef then?

Well the amount of commercials irritates the hell out of me. Too much. Sure they tell you to keep doing what you’re doing while they show their sponsors but geez. Sometimes I sit in my living room floor watching what seems like 12 commercials played consecutively. So by the time Gilad comes back on, I’m all cooled down and then it annoys me even more that Gilad is already half-way done the new step. The time I spend waiting for the show to come back, I could’ve done the dishes. Or loaded my laundry in the dryer and put another load in the washer. For a Mom like me who has too many blogs to write for, a Toddler, chores, etc, Time is Precious. So why not just stick with my DVD’s and other routines then? Well like I said, I like varieties so I’ll probably stay miffed at FitTV and still continue to work-out with the exercise shows for as long as I live. Hehehe.

When I lived in New York City, I walked everywhere. I walked to the subway and the shop, I walked to my inlaws or to visit friends. The city is so crowded and there’s no where to park anyway, so I always walked. I enjoy walking and people watching or looking in store windows. Plus walking clears my mind and helps me think of ideas.

When I moved to suburbia I had to learn to drive. Nothing is in walking distance. The nearest grocery store is several miles away so walking with a bunch of shopping bags on a busy main thoroughfare with no sidewalks is sort of out of the question.

As I grew older and heavier finding exercises I can do without giving myself a heart attack became a challenge. I still like to walk, but not when it’s 12 degrees out. I have a couple of videos from the 80’s but those aerobics are difficult and I’m 20 years older now. Lately I’ve been doing Denise Austin’s morning workout on ESPN Classics. It’s made up of reruns of her series from the 80’s and 90’s but I don’t need to be a dance major or Olympic gymnast to keep up. It’s on at 7:30 AM (EST) which is perfect for me because that’s when I put my son on the school bus.

Denise looks a little silly with her big hair and neon pink and green costumes, but the workout is a good one. As I get into better shape, I’ll graduate to videos or programs with more of an impact.

When the weather starts getting warmer, my family is going to do some weekend activities that involve exercise. We have lots of hiking trails and walking and biking paths around here. There’s no reason we shouldn’t do more of these activities. We all enjoy getting out for the day and taking a short hike to a picnic spot isn’t a terrible way to spend a Sunday.

I think exercise and good health is all about making the right choices for us. I know my limits. But by finding a simple program that works for me, I’m more inclined to keep up.

Do you have some great exercise ideas for a 43 year old out of shape woman? Do share!

Couples did not mean people solely in marriage or bf/gf relationships. It’s actually a team kind of theme. A mother and Daughter team, father and daughter team, ex-married couple team, football team mates team, bestfriends team, etc… There were originally 9 pairs of team. Unbeknownst to the contestants, there was another team to compete with. The online winners who has never met each other until that day. For their first challenge, they had to hike up a hill to touch their flag, both member should touch it, then hike back down to the starting point to pick their trainers. Most of the contestants wanted Jillian because they said she’s tough and that’s what they needed. The team who wanted to be with Jillian so bad ended up being the last to arrive in the starting point so she and her daughter didn’t have a choice but to pick Bob since the rule was once one trainer fills her 5 teams she can’t have anymore. In short, Jillian filled her 5 teams before Bob did. The biggest sponsor for this edition is Brita. The way Jillian promoted it was redundant. To paraphrase her…

“Water is good, Brita filers it, then we’ll work out with the Brita filtered water coz you need it to hydratre you through out the training…. So let’s go work out with our Brita water”

I was like, “geez if you love Brita so much, why don’t you just marry it” LOL.

Meet the teams after the jump …

Bette Sue and Ali — mother and daughter team. Bette was the one who wanted to train with Jillian so badly but felt she let her daughter down for not being able to get down first. She was pretty much crawling on the ground.

Jay and Mark — brothers team. they’re both successful in everything they do. Great family, great business but they just can’t manage their weight.

Paul and Kelly — ex-married couple. Kelly at one point broke down because they agreed not to talk bad about each other but Paul forgot their pact in one instant. Seriously, bless their heart. Who would go on TV with their ex-spouse to try to lose weight?

Maggie and Jenn — Bestfriends team. Both work for a weight loss camp yet feel embarrassed to let everyone know of the fact because of their own weight problems.

Neil and Amanda — Husband and wife team. According to them, they want to lose weight before their son realizes they are “fat”.

Curtis and Mallory — Husband and wife team. They wnat to change their lifestyle for their daughters’s sake.

Jackie and Dan — Mother and son team. Mother blames herself for her son’s weight problems.

Trent and Roger — Former football team mates. they want to get back into their harsh training just like old times.

Brittney and Bernie — the online winners team. Brittney wants to be hot steamy sex like Jessica Biel. Bernie’s fears is dying too young because of his obesity.

Lynn and Jenni — Father and daughter team. The first team to be eliminated. Jenni grew up as the “fat friend”. She was hoping by joining the show she and her father can work as a team and a chance to get even closer.

I think the challenge of this couples edition is that they both have to work hard to motivate each other to stay in the show. If one gives up, it’s not fair for the other one who is working so hard to get back into shape. So this is going to be an interesting installment. I wish them all the best.
