Forsythia Inspires Quilting

When the forsythia bush in our yard blooms…..my thoughts turn to flowers in quilting and fabric art projects.   Other flowers come to mind this time of year, too.

Why not create a fabric or mixed media  book of flowers?
If not a book, try a collage page.  This may inspire you to do more and eventually make a book.  Also, the collage pages can be three-dimensional and ultimately framed.

Quilting & Patchwork Participates in May Arts & Design Showcase

The Arts & Design Channel Showcase features a floral theme for May, with the participants designing and contributing projects that relate to springtime and flowers.  Cyndi, of Layers Upon Layers, hosted the Showcase this month.
I wrote about flower quilts and art reminding me of quilting with my grandmother and the gardens at her Trails End Farm.

Quilting in the Garden & Other Spring Thoughts

When I saw the eye-catching cover of Quilting in the Garden, by Barb Adams and Alma Allen, at the PickleDish site, my thoughts turned to spring and gardening, flowers and quilting…just in time for the Arts and Design Channel’s Spring Showcase.
This brought to mind other garden and floral themes that permeate throughout the quilting world and have been around since Grandmother’s Flower Garden and others.  As you take a walk through quilting history, you’ll find that flowers inspired many of the pioneer quilters, sometimes from gardens with masses of flowers and others that consisted of a single rose bush …read more

Thoughts of Spring & Flowers for Quilters

In northern climates, we’ve been experiencing colder weather and snow.  So as February reaches the mid-mark, our thoughts begin to turn to” spring and flowers and sun.  Julie of Big Horn Quilts in Greybull, WY mentions this in her newsletter and got me thinking about the longer days, flowers, and warmer weather that’s coming before long.
(I receive Julie’s newsletter with the happenings at her quilt store and new fabrics available.)
So as we think of spring and flowers, we might start searching for floral quilt patterns and fabrics with these designs on them.
