Since it’s a holiday I thought we should have some music. This is a video I just recently saw at a fellow bloggers home base, The Production Side.
Since it’s a holiday I thought we should have some music. This is a video I just recently saw at a fellow bloggers home base, The Production Side. It goes along with Into the Wild — which I haven’t seen but have read a multitude of times. The book is great (actually all of Jon Krakauer books are good) but the movie looks like a visual wonder. Anyway the video got me thinking; here at Offbeat we talk a lot about the trouble with McMansions, saving space when we can, and leaving a smaller footprint. Now we have a new year arriving and with it new chances to make a difference with how we live, build and occupy the land.

You know, if we don’t use these chances there won’t be movies like this with beautiful scenery to see. We won’t have forests and wide spaces to visit in person because they’ll be replaced with miles of structures. Obviously I love a good structure but I think we can have both; structures and land preservation we just need to plan and think carefully about our actual needs vs. wants. That’s manageable for 2008.

Wishing everyone a beautiful and peaceful New Year.

Not truly candy but yummy all the same; this new Single Hauz designed by Poland based front architects comes on a stick.

It mainly reminds me of an interactive billboard or maybe a travel case without the handle.

Beat that pesky shark issue that comes with life on the water.

Here’s what I’m thinking. A home like this will leave a smaller footprint because technically how much of it honestly touches the planet. You could build high above the trees without cutting them down. This is my eco-theory of how the Single Hauz could be put to some nice green living use.
Here’s what I’m thinking. A home like this will leave a smaller footprint because technically how much of it honestly touches the planet. You could build high above the trees without cutting them down. This is my eco-theory of how the Single Hauz could be put to some nice green living use. I suppose a trek up that many stairs might be problematic but seriously you could sell your stair master and use the house as your main workout.

What do you think? A winner or not. I do like my theory but it seems a bit cool for my taste. Also, I’d never live above the water; even on the safest of sticks.

Big old hugs to: choc-o-licious Heather from Chocolate Bytes for pointing this out in the first place and to an old favorite, BLDGBLOG for having information in actual English about this home on their lovely blog.
