Candy hearts with sappy sayings are so third grade.
Yes? Then it’s time to make your own.
The geniuses at Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories have upgraded their tutorial on how to change those candy heart messages into something you really want to say. And they’re food-safe with a few simple tools.
If I made these, I’d say:
Michael rules.
Choco mews.
Go solar.
What would your candy hearts say?

DIY Necklace Organizer

I’m never quite sure what to do with my necklaces.
I don’t have a ton of them, and maybe that’s why! I prefer the plain box type of jewelry organizer to the big ones that have rotating hooks for necklaces.
That’s one reason I got all jazzed when I saw Candace’s Necklace organizer. Isn’t it sweet?
Candace used a cutlery tray, various knobs and some stamping paper.

Keep your spare key clean and hidden from view with this simple project by Jessica at Zakka Life. She came up with a great use for prescription pill bottles.
Jessica suggests gluing a rock on the cap and placing the bottle with key inside into a nearby planter or flower pot.
Go to Jessica’s post, House Key Hider, for more details.

I stared at the sign posts for a few seconds before I realized that they were canoe oars! Very appropriate for a river walking trail.
Have you found other clever uses for old oars?

Corks have more uses than I could have imagined. If you’ve missed the previous cork posts here, you can find them now at my Roundup of Cork Posts.
But here’s an adorable cork use to add to the pile. TheCraftyWino at Etsy used corks as roofing material for a birdhouse. It’s called Cardinal Birdhouse with a Corky Roof.
Do you see that the corks say “Cardinal Point”? Cute.
Linette at Mother Earth’s Garden has another great use for corks.
I’ve had this one bookmarked for a few weeks. She throws corks into her plants to help the plants retain moisture!

DIY Gift Idea: Cassette Tape Wallets

I saw a strange thing on the bar today: A Shawshank Redemption soundtrack cassette tape. Uh, where did that come from I ask the husband.
From the old cassette player we just donated to Goodwill. Oh.
Well, what to do with it now? He then mentions he has a whole box full of cassette tapes. That’s when I suggest making cassette tape wallets!
And I found a lovely little tutorial on just that at Chezlin. She used a zipper, glue and fabric to create some cool wallets from old cassette tapes. And Chezlin painted this one with enamel paints. Cute!
Here’s another one from …read more

On my recent stumbling around, I found Alli’s Paper-Covered Pen Tutorial at One Pearl Button.
Alli’s tutorial takes you through the easy steps to transform a plain Bic into something chic. These paper-covered pens would make great little office gifts from a crafty elf.
What paper designs would you use for this projects?
